Insulin reaction question

I just started Novolin R, 10ML last night. They're only having me use it once a night, right before dinner.

I did my injection about 5-10min before eating dinner last night. My 2hr post meter reading was 110, which is right where they want to see it. However, within an hour or so of the injection, I felt completely exhausted and ready to pass out (several hours before I'd normally lay down for bed). This morning, I woke up feeling like crap - dehydrated, headache, mild hang over type of feeling. My fasting meter reading was up at 104 - and my fasting *usually* is much lower, around 80-94.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Re: Insulin reaction question

  • Did you check your blood sugar while you felt sick? Sometimes there can be a weird reaction with super low blood sugar numbers that actually can cause a higher number in the morning. Or, your number could have spiked during the night. If it happens again I would recommend testing so you can know if it is blood sugar related.

  • As PP said, if you actually dip too low your body will rebound by breaking down stores of glucose (fat) and then holding on to it causing a spike in your morning numbers. To see if that's happening test in the middle of the night (I'll do it one of the times I get up to pee).
