High-Risk Pregnancy

Fasting numbers.

So yesterday my FN was 99, and this morning 127. I am supposed to keep it under 90 and I am pretty confused as to what I need to do to get it down.

My other numbers have been high by 1-2 pts but, I am going to try and get them right today by cutting back a little more. It's these pre breakfast #'s that have me stumped.

Thanks guys!

Re: Fasting numbers.

  • What I've noticed has helped is eating a handful of almonds right before bed (I spoil myself and make them the cocoa roast kind). I've noticed that the morning after my numbers are fine whereas when I don't they tend to be higher.

I thought this when I got 99 yesterday am and hadn't eaten since dinner the night before. So last night I had a small bowl of raisin bran around 11:30pm and then this am it was so high.

So I guess I did that snack thing way wrong? I need to do it earlier, snack smaller?

  • Sorry I have no advice for you but I'm in your shoes. Despite starting insulin I haven't had a fasting # below 95 (what my dr wants)... All I can say is once your fasting is under control the rest should fall in line. That's why we had to start insulin. My fasting was starting to effect my breakfast where before it wasn't :(

I've tried eating my full 30g of carbs at bedtime, way less than that, no carb, and no snack. Nothing changed my numbers. Everyone is different and be more difficult or easier to control.

  • Do you think maybe it was higher because of your snack? Raisin Bran cereal with milk is kind of high in carbs, but maybe that's just my experience... Milk on its own is fine for me, but once I put it with cereal- even healthy ones-- it spikes.

  • I tried high carb, high protein, and a mix of both for pre-bedtime snacks and couldn't get my fasting numbers under control. They started me on glyb last week and it didn't get my numbers low enough so they doubled my before dinner dosage yesterday and I finally had a fasting number under 95 this morning.

You may just need meds. Your hormones are the highest at night.
  • Have you tried a sandwich and a cup of whole milk before bed? My nutritionist said that for some reason, that is the best snack for lowering fasting numbers. It brought mine down from 90 to 82.
  • I had my first appointment today and learned how to use the machine! At 10 after breakfast my sugar level was at 77. Is that normal?
  • Thanks guys. I did more protein and a tiny bit of carbs for my snack tonight so we shall see how I do in the am tomorrow. I appreciate all the help.

Snack tonight. 1/2 a whole grain bagel thin toasted with pb and a cheese stick. hot tea with a tiny bit of honey. We shall see.
