Nursery Chairs/Gliders

Does anyone have any advice regarding what works and doesn't work in a nursery? Does having a glider or other similar seating in a nursery make night feedings much easier?

As far as fabric... does a glider get very dirty (i.e. would white be a terrible choice)?

I didn't have a "nursery" with the other two, and it's been 7 years since I had a baby... so practical advice is much appreciated!

Re: Nursery Chairs/Gliders

  • I'm not getting white just because dirt will show easier, even though I don't think they get THAT dirty.   I think they're really good for soothing baby.  I mostly just want a glider because I've always wanted a glider and they're super comfy!  I'm using my pregnancy as an excuse to get one.
  • I love my glider although I have to admit I have not used it in a while specially because DD is walking and touching everything and I don't want her to get any ideas from the rocker. Mine is beige and it doesn't really get dirty but it does get lint from our clothes or whatever. Here is a link of it so you can see it:

  • I have a Chocolate Brown Dutailier Glider.  It reclines (HIGHLY RECOMMEND).  I think white would be terrible.  You will get baby vomit, spitup, milk, and god knows what else on that thing.  Ours is over a year old and looks great.  It's a microfiber of some type and cleans up easily.

You do not need a gliding ottoman, but a foot rest of some type is helpful.

I still use the glider every night to hold and cuddle my girl before bed, the recline feature makes it nice to lay back with her on my chest.  LOVE.

  • Ours is off white( or it used to be) we have had it for four years though and it was in our living room for three years. It cleans well but I am going to recover it before this baby comes just because there are a few stains I cannot get out.

  • Go for comfort. I did not buy a glider with either of my first two. I used a rocking chair. I hardly ever used the rocker because it was not comfortable. It was my Grandmother's so I am keeping it but buying a glider and ottoman (the arm chair style).

I am getting a light brown it looks like an off white but reviews say it is darker than the picutre. If it is a cleanable fabric like mircofiber I don't think the color matters as much. My opinion not from experience. :)

  • I love my glider. I still use it with my daughter even thought I don't BF anymore. Definitely get one that reclines like PP mentioned. I would not get white. It doesn't get filthy but I'd be afraid of it getting dirty just from everyday use. Mine did get milk on it and puked on but it washes out fine. My mom had a rocker at her house I could use and I liked the glider so much better because of the padded armrests. You spend a lot of time sitting there so the padding is nice.

  • I loved having my daughter's glider although she started sleeping through the night at 8 weeks so I didn't have to use it that often.  It's a very comfy (fully padded and upholstered) hot pink glider and ottoman.  It's still in DD's room and is just her chair.  I won't be using it for the new baby.  Personally I don't plan to nurse this time.  Just pump.  So the night feedings will be a little different this time around.  I'm not sure if we'll even get a new glider or not.  My grandmother bought the pink one so I guess if she feels the new baby needs a chair of his own I wouldn't say no.  I guess we'll see.

As for the cleaning...HA!  When he/she is a newborn, the chair will most likely look gorgeous for months.  After the baby is able to move around...it all depends on how much the baby climbs on it.  With DD's chair being in her room, naturally she was all over it.  One MAJOR problem though was her tendency to go into her room to poop...............and then proceed to smear her poop all over the place including her chair.  I never anticipated the amount of disgusting mess a baby could make in just a couple minutes of being out of my sight.  I had to do some serious upholstery cleaning to her chair on several occasions. So I would definitely suggest a darker color for the wonderful messes that babies/children create.
