Am I the only one who does this?

DD got some really "different" looking outfits for her birthday. They are just wrong and there was no way that I was going to put her in them, not even as play clothes.

I returned them today w/o thinking twice about it. DH thought it was rude of me. My thought was that if I didn't like them, she wasn't going to wear them and it would just sit in the closet and if it had been for one of us, we wouldn't have hesitated to return them.

  • I do it too and if I can't return I ebay or consign.

  • I would do (and have done) the same thing.  Why is that rude?  That's what gift receipts are for.

  • I'd do it, if it was returnable.  No shame in my game though when it comes to that kinda thing.
  • I knew as soon as she opened them that they were going to be returned. I put them back into the bag after she pulled them out. Thankfully, I have my academy award for acting for the proper situation.

  • I agree with you! I even exchanged the travel system my mom bought when I was pregnant because I hated the color. I told her it was broken and they didn't have another one in stock, so I had to get a different pattern. Not honest, I know, but she would have been devastated because she loved the pattern and "knew" I would too.

In the end, people wanted your DD to have clothes to wear, not hang in her closet.

  • I wish some of the clothes that my kiddo got for his birthday came with gift receipts so that I could return them.  I'm pretty sure I'm never putting him in a shirt that says "Diaper Loading: 72% Complete"

  • I do this too.  DH gets mad.  He says DS can just wear it what does it matter what it looks like.  But it matters to me.

  • Would your DH like to wear an ugly outfit he didn't like? It's better to return than go to waste.
  • It depends on who gave it and if it was returnable. If it was from someone who never sees my kid, then I'd return it. If it was from someone close, who sees them a lot, I would put it on them at an occasion where they will see it on them (I'm thinking grandparents). MIL has given us some doozies, but it makes her happy to see them in the outfit, so who cares. It's not like I'm going to get their portraits taken in a fugly outfit.
  • Totally reminds me of the "I'm with the MILF" shirt that my brother just got for DS. I wonder if it still has the tags on it....
  • I am too cheap to let things go to waste.  I would take things that I wasn't going to use back in a heartbeat.  I would also hope someone else would do the same if they didn't like the gift I bought (I would hate to think my hard-earned money would go to waste!)
