SO Cysts, what causes them?

Let's say you only have 1 mature follicle and you get a trigger shot so you're pretty sure it releases, how would one end up with a cyst? Is it one of the smaller follies that keeps growing past ovulation? If you take a treatment break and don't get day 3 monitoring, how would you know? Just curious!

Feb 14: Gonal-f + IUI #5 = BFP! (EDD 11/4/14)
Baby boy arrived 11/13/14!

    It could be a collapsed follicle that turns into a cyst after ovulation. You need CD3 monitoring to be sure it's gone before doing another medicated cycle.

    TTC #1 since March 2011
    Dx = Unexplained IF
    1 medicated TI cycle & 4 clomid IUIs = all BFNs
    June 2013 IVF #1 = 6 frosties + BFP!
    DS1 born 2/14

    TTC #2 since December 2014
    May 2015 unassisted BFP ended in m/c at 7wks
    April 2016 FET #1 = BFN
    June 2016 FET #2 = c/p
    August 2016 FET #3 = BFP!
    DS2 born 4/17

    If you are on a break cycle not about to start meds again so therefore don't have a cd3 baseline to confirm...sometimes because they are so big you can have pain. Also if they are producing enough hormones your AF can be late and with neg HPT's it causes people to wonder why they're late.
    Otherwise Blood work and US is the only way to know.

    Ok so if AF is normal and no pain and I'm not doing a medicated cycle, then I probably shouldn't worry about it. Thanks for the info!
