The really dumb things people say. (a vent post.)

Earlier I posted about how my thyroid had gone a little cray cray (4.8) and how I had to go to my endocrinologist today. Well, when we went I was explaining to him how I needed him to adjust my meds, showed him the paperwork and reminded him of the fertility issues that we are dealing with. His response:

Him: "How old are you?" [um, HELLO all of that is on my chart.]

Me: I'm 25.

Him: "You're still young. You have plenty of time."

UM, are you serious?! Needless to say, my husband and I let him have it and that will be my last appointment there. It amazes me how rude and insensitive people can be. I had a a friend from work say something along those lines too when we found out about our chemical pregnancy. I e-mailed my favorite nurse at my RE's and her response was (exactly):

"screw that guy...what a jerk!"

I literally laughed out loud when I saw that. I guess I wasn't expecting the bluntness, but I did appreciate it. She also told me that my RE is going to give me a referral to see someone else on Tuesday. Thank God.

People are so ignorant.  I am sorry you had to deal with that.  I think it's cool you e-mail your nurse.  I do that too. I don't any other specialty has the same relationship with their patients.  God bless our nurses

YES! Our nurses are the best. My fave nurse has been there for me every step of the way. I know I must drive her insane because I literally e-mail her all the time (I worry about EVERYTHING! lol) and she is so patient and nice about it. She never complains. They have been especially amazing helping me cope with my endo. When this is all over, I'm really going to miss that relationship with them!

That's terrible! The last time I went to my endocrinologist he asked how treatment was going at the RE and I almost lost it trying to tell him about the failed IVF. He was so caring and sincere and never once did he say I had "plenty of time". In fact, despite my levels being within range, he tweaked my dosage to try to get my levels to the best possible numbers. I hate when drs have an awful bedside manner. I want to tell them that they are providing a service to ME, that I am PAYING them...they're not doing me a favor by treating me. Ugh! I hope you find a better dr!!

I really hate when people say "you are young, you have time." That may be the case, but hello, it won't get better when I get older when l'm dealing with IF issues! If anything it may be worse. It's true, people are just ignorant sometimes!

I agree! I am spending hard earned money on them, the least they can do is keep their rude comments to themselves and take my concerns seriously. Plus, whether or not they think I'm "too young" is, in my opinion, none of their concern. It's not like I'm 16 years old! I think doctors see me and think that because I look so young that I'm not actually in my twenties. I felt so disrespected and that is absolutely the last time he will see my face. I hate that doctor's office anyway. It smells, the wait is an hour every time, and it's so out of date! I should have been out of there a long time ago. Thanks for listening to me vent!
