Baby Names

Ya'll are going to think I'm crazy...

Ok! so heres where I am, I am pretty confused. Me and hubby decided on baby girl's name 3 wks ago and have told everyone her name (big mistake!) because now I am BIG time second guessing it.....

Before becoming a SAHM I worked for a hateful, truly hateful doctor that I had to deal with for 3 yrs and his daughter was in and out of the office a lot and was just as annoying. Well I haven't worked for him in 3 1/2 yrs and had completely forgotten his daughter's name until I ran into one of my old co-workers today and she reminded me of the name-E.MILY!! The name we decided to name our daughter......she even has the same middle name that I must use.

Now your probably saying I'm crazy and should get over it but this man and my time at his office was truly horrible. He verbally put us all down and told us we were nobody's etc. and I just don't want to remember that part of my life when I look at my sweet daughter...What should I do? Change it and tell ppl oops and were keeping the new name a secret until birth so nothing like this happens again? Or deal with it like hubby says and not change it? (he's pretty ticked and saying just leave the name)

TIA for any help! and sorry the post was so long...

  • Emily is such a super popular name, your former bosses' daughter will be just one of many that you will come across. Let me guess, the middle name is Grace?

You don't owe anyone an explanation for changing your mind about a name, it happens a lot during a pregnancy, just say you changed your mind. I wouldn't worry about that at all.

  • You're not naming her the doctors name. Honestly it is a popular name so there are plenty of other Emily's to associate the name with.

  • MN is going to be Marie

  • Depends on how much you love the name. I had a bad association with my oldest daughters middle name but loved the name enough to use it and now it doesn't remind me of the other girl at all. It took on a whole new meaning.

  • In all truthfulness I don't Love any name :( I haven't heard one girl name that I'm in love with or think is perfect. It was on my top 5 list (I didn't like enough names to have a top 10) LOL! and hubby liked it so thats what we chose....

Maybe its just crazy hormones? I don't know, guess I'll just wait and see....

  • I just wanted to add that if you really love it, you should go for it. Good luck, picking a name is really hard, I'm sure you will find the right one for you and your DH.
  • I would just use it. First, it's not like you are naming your kid after her. Second, Emily and Marie are SO POPULAR that nobody but your co-workers would know the baby Emily and older Emily connection

  • But it sounds like you WON'T remember that part of your life when you look at your daughter, because you didn't even remember it at all until somebody mentioned it! It obviously didn't strike you right away as "oh no, we can't use that because of that Emily Marie" so I wouldn't let it affect you now.

  • Eh, I would change it personally. The negative association, whether popular name or not, would be stuck in my head.

  • I know three Emily Marie's, I would use it and once you see your baby you'll have a good connection with the name! I wouldn't let a bad connection that you originally forgot about deter you from using the name.

    This!

  • I don't think you are crazy, but if it's bothering you, could you pick a different (but similar- sounding) name?

I second the PP that have said that Emily is so super popular -- as is Marie in the MN spot, although I was going to guess Rose.

    Are you open to suggestions?

  • If you didn't remember it was his daughter's name, it must not have had that much of an impact on you and you'll probably forget it again in another 3.5 years.

I agree make new memories for the name.
