Trouble TTC

Are you sending your RE anything for the holiday?

I was lurking on GP on TN and somebody brought up a good question.

Is anybody sending a card, gift or holiday treat to their RE's office?

I always knew that when I get pregnant, or if I choice to leave CF, I would bake them something as a thank you. It never crossed my mind to send anything for Christmas.

ETA: I was thinking more for the office staff then my actual RE.

.

  • Nope, which I guess is bad considering we give the garbage man a bonus on Christmas. You'd think someone who is trying to help me reproduce a mini Svenny would make the list.

We just officially decided to switch to a different RE. So....no.

This.  I've only seen my new RE once, so I don't know the office that well.  If it was someone I had been going to for awhile, I would probably take some cookies.  I think it's a nice gesture if it feels right to you.

  • I don't see an RE yet, but I want to play. I'm on Team Scrooge. The only people I buy (or make) presents for are my family and a couple of my friends. I bake cookies for alot of my extended family.

I do not give money or presents, not even cookies, to people who are paid to perform a job or service for me. Is it nice that some people tip the mail carrier or garbage collector? Yes. That's nice and I give those people a gold star. But the mail carrier and garbage collector probably get paid more than me so I can't rationalize paying them more to do a job they already get paid for.

And I think it's weird to give a doctor a present. They already probably make 6 figures and don't need something from me. They are paid to do a job. But I have been accused by my H as being a tightwad and a cheapskate, so take that with a grain of salt.

TTC from May 2011 to Jan 2013. Due 9/11/13
  • I was thinking of taking them in some type of cookie platter. Store bought of course because I am not a great baker haha!!

Normally I agree w/ you. I don't tip my Mail Woman or our garbage collectors, but the RE is different. Once you start treatments w/ them you are there a lot and it doesn't take long to be on a first name basis w/ them. I don't actually do most of my communication or monitoring w/ my doctor, but w/ my RE nurse and staff. The treat would be for them, and they are the ones who try and make our experience as pleasant as possible. At least my office has more of an overall personal feel than my other doctor's offices. I wouldn't consider sending my Endo anything and I've been w/ her for much longer.

ETA: I guess I should have been more clear in my OP, it would be for the RE staff not so much my actual RE.

Thanks for clarifying. I do think it makes more sense to get cookies or something small that the office staff could enjoy if you feel like you really wanted to do something for them. I don't have that relationship with any office staff (not seeing RE yet) so I might feel like you especially if they're really sweet. I'm such a Scrooge with people I'm not related to, though. Sometimes I wish I had more holiday cheer with stuff like that, but then I look at my bank account. LOL.

  • No. The nurse I see now isn't even the same one that I saw before our break. I have no idea what happened to the other one. I liked her. This one is still nice but I've only seen her this one cycle so I don't really know her. The receptionist is nice enough, I guess, but I'm not that chatty of a person so I don't really have in depth conversations with her or anything.
  • I usually leave my garbage men a six pack of beer. Not sure that will work for the RE. If this cycle us a bust our next cd 12 would probably be the 24th and IUI on Christmas. If that's the case in definitely bringing presents!

I don't know about that - when I saw my RE at a work event (can we say awkward bc he couldn't remember me and kept failing at placing when he last saw me) he made a joke with me about drinking beer (which I don't drink thanks be being allergic to hops - so unfortunate, especially for a German from Oregon).  I withheld making a comment back, but seriously thought about saying, "As long as there is some Jameson, I'm game".

I won't be getting them anything.  I have had no success yet and won't be going back there this year - also haven't seen my RE since September...
