Baby Showers

Too early to plan

I'm only 9 weeks pregnant but my sister already said that she wants to throw my baby shower. Awesome.

The other day ago she was bouncing ideas off me and I was just thinking "wait, we are doing this is May, right?" I know everyone plans things differently but I was a little confused since I'm not the one throwing it how much input I would/could have?

She asked me to find out how much the local parks around me cost to rent a shelter/lodge. Figured I'll get around to that within the next few months.

Beyond that do I just let her do her thing and show up? Or should I be an active participant in this? I don't think she would care if I voiced my opinions. I'm just sort of like "uh, I haven't even found an OB/midwife yet. lol"

  • If she's the hostess, you let her do her thing, and just show up. If she asks you for your opinions and input, then give it.

  • It is great she is so excited and already planning your shower. However, I would say that she probably should slow down and let you stay healthy and happy for a few more weeks! With that said, you definitely should just show up! If she wants to know your thoughts on a certain theme, then you can voice your opinion. For example, my 2 best friends are throwing mine and they decided to focus on the colors of my nursery/bedding. I loved that idea, because I didn't want a cheesy theme, like Pooh or anything. Other than that, I am going to just show up and have fun!

  • I my have been a little like this with my sis, because I am a super planner and I wants. To throw her the perfect shower, but did have a budget. So by knowing a few key details early, like venue and theme I was able to shop around for the best options, buy things as they went on sale and pick up things in small purchases instead of all at once. I got a ton of pink stuff right after valentines day for almost nothing. I spent along time looking at budget friendly options. I think if you are worried its okay to say, hey I'm only 9 weeks can we revisit this after my first trimester. I'm sure he is jut super excited.

  • I feel that if she asks for input then you can certainly give it.  As far as checking with the parks and reserving...May could be a busy month so you might not want to wait too long on that.  Why is she asking you to do it though?  Does she not live near you or do you just have a lot more time than she does?  Just make sure you don't do too much...take on to much.  It might come to a point where you would feel you are hosting your own shower - kwim?
