Trying to Get Pregnant

Coconut Oil v. Preseed?

I was going to run out to Walgreens and pick up some preseed but, I've been hearing a lot about coconut oil these days.... plus I read some blog about how it helps with TTC.

Figured you ladies would know would know best :)

Re: Coconut Oil v. Preseed?

  • Ive never heard of using coconut oil, but I do use preseed and I recommend it. Even DH prefers it over regular lube.

  • I have heard that coconut oil is ok to use for lube while TTC. It is a lot cheaper than preseed.

  • I, personally would stick with preseed. It is made to help swimmers, and coconut oil just happens not to hinder them.

  • I have never heard of coconut oil for TTC safe lube, or lube period.  I would personally ask my doctor before using something that was just a tip I read about.

Exactly this. I've HEARD a lot about using different oils but I wouldn't use any of them without asking your doctor. My RE told us about preseed and that's what we've used. A little goes a looong way. And it doesn't help the sperm, it just doesn't hurt them.

That is not true. Preseed is just a sperm friendly lube, it doesn't do anything.

  • I just bought a new bottle of Preseed this morning from Walgreens. We used it when we got pregnant with DD. I wouldn't use the coconut oil.

  • I personally wouldn't use it. There's just something about using a food item up my lady bits that weirds me out. I'd stick with the preseed.

  • Also, coconut oil is a natural antifungal. It can help prevent and cure yeast infections. There really is nothing wrong with using it.
  • Another vote for sticking with preseed.  I'm convinced it was a big player in helping conceive my son

This exactly! We use coconut oil for just about everything! i had a nasty yeast infection right around the time I O'd and i used coconut oil to treat the infection and also as a lube. The yeast is gone and I didn't use any drugs!

  • I use coconut oil for many purposes.  The jar I have comes in a solid form that you have to liquify by warming it up in your hands.  That seems like a lot of hassle and mess when you are in the heat of the moment.

I prefer to use a few drops of preseed.  Just don't use the recommended amount and there is no need to use the applicators either.  A little goes a long way.

  • I, personally, would use coconut oil. As other posters have said it's not like preseed gives the sperm a corsage and escorts them to the egg

  • I'm a dirty hippie, so I guess you might already know my answer. I asked my RE and he said that there are no studies done on coconut oil, but he has been asked before and did his own research. His conclusion is that is is fine, as long as you are not using it just to cover up other unknown medical issues that could be occuring resulting in ph inbalance or dryness. ... then again he said the same thing about Preseed, so I'm guessing that is his opinion on all lubes.

I also used it to treat a yeast infection and it worked so well - my symptoms were gone even faster using it than with other products/drugs I've used in the past.
