Holiday Blues

We used to have the best Christmas celebrations with my mom's side of the family. We always had Christmas breakfast AND dinner at my grammy's house and the whole family was there. Since my grandma passed it has slowly gone downhill.

I offered to host Christmas dinner this year...and NO ONE is coming.

I miss me family. Crying

  • I am sorry Kelly, change like that sucks. Dh's family is doing things diffrent this year for the holidays and he is devestated too. We did decide on a new "our family" tradition and that has helped lighten the blow. Maybe you can come up with something extra special for you guys to make up for the lack of others coming over. ((((((((HUGS)))))))))))) I love the holidays but there are things about it that SUCK! This is one of those things.
  • I totally know what you're talking about. My grandma held everything together.

Adding in in-laws, especially ones who have never celebrated Christmas before, has complicated things even more for me. I had this vision of a perfectly blended Christmas, and everyone holding hands & singing Christmas songs... and that's not happening.

  • I know how you feel. Christmas used to be my favorite time of the year. I looked forward to it all year. Not for the presents but just for the mood and the shopping and the giving...

Now it just sort of sucks...always having to decide what to do and where to go. It's stressful and not fun. I now only look forward to the season and ignore the bickering from the family.  :(

Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

  • I'm so sorry! Can you start the tradition with just your immediate family (you, Grey and Ben) and see if it grows from there?
  • I'm so sorry.  :(  I was just talking to my DH about how I miss the days when we went to my Grandma's for Christmas too.  Things have sure changed.  Every Christmas has been different for awhile for us now.  Someday we will have some consistent traditions again.. Right now we are sorta in flux. :(    I try to focus on the people I AM able to be with over the holidays,  but it is tough.  ((((HUGS))))
