Cloth Diapering

overnight

The past two nights I have tried to cloth diaper my 4 month old at night. Neither thing I did worked both times she leaked. She is a side sleeper which Im not sure if that has anything to do with it. What do you ladies do at night time that works? The first night I tried Kawaii's goodnight heavy wetter with both MF inserts she leaked. Last night I tried Rumparooz diaper with both inserts and she leaked. My husband is starting to think im crazy for REALLY wanting to CD. Help me prove him wrong!

Re: overnight

  • My son is not a heavy wetter so we just double stuff our Charlie Bananas. Does the diaper have a good fit?

  • she has a good fit in both brands she just pees so much it's crazy! I have youtubed this issue and heard hemp with a MF works so I might try that tonight.

  • If the fit is good, then you def need to add absorbency. Hemp or bamboo should work well...

  • I stuff my GNHWs with large sized Thirsties hemp prefold and two newborn bamboo inserts.  It lasts 13 hours and never leaks.  It weighs like a pound in the morning, too, lol.

ETA: Actually, with the GNHWs I use 1 bamboo insert and 1 booster that I bought on Etsy which is trimmer, but I use 2 bamboo inserts with my HD2s, so I think it would work the same.  You might even be able to get away with just one bamboo insert because the hemp prefolds are super absorbant!

Lots of people swear by fitteds with wool. I don't feel like dropping tons of money on a few fitteds, plus they're harder to get clean esp. With hard water. We use a toddler prefold with 2 Joeybunz hemp and a Disana wool soaker with no leaks.
Fitteds aren't necessarily harder to clean. My GMs have snap in/out soakers that completely open. We use fitteds with PUL covers and have zero leaks for 12+ hours. I prefer the BB coverall with it's double leg gussets for my every which way sleeper.

  • I use an mf with a hemp insert behind it or our bamboo fitted. It's called bumboo. Amazing.

  • I tried just using two MF inserts too and it doesn't work.  I have to use a hemp under MF, no leaks.  There was one fluke time LO slept 12 hrs and nothing leaked out.  I was so happy!

I have hard water and aside from having to rinse or soak my fitteds in the morning to get rid of some of the pee, they clean very well.

My DD is a tummy/side sleeper. I was stuffing her pockets with MF and hemp, bamboo and hemp, it just didn't matter, we had leaks. With a fitted and wool we have had zero leaks.

  • I love fitteds for overnight. Whether it's with a wool or fleece soaker or a PUL cover, we have never ever had a leak and she goes for 12 hours in her overnight diaper.

We have just recently had to start rinsing the diaper in the morning - 12 hours worth of pee from a toddler who still nurses throughout the night stinks up the diaper pail too much to not rinse!
