High-Risk Pregnancy

anyone taking Imuran?

I am not PG yet, but my rheumatologist recommended it to keep my risk of autoimmune flare down during pregnancy (I'm not pregnant yet).  Reading about it has made me totally freak out!  I can't see myself saying yes but curious if I'm letting Dr. Google get the best of me...would love to hear of any others dealing with this.

Re: anyone taking Imuran?

  • I can't help you too much, but I have Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease & Arthritis and my rheumatologist told me that my options for pregnancy were Prednisone, Plaquenil and/or Imuran. I had always heard that Imuran was not safe to take while pregnant, but I guess it's being used more often these days. I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant and on 10 mg of Prednisone and 100 mg of Plaquenil. There's risks with all of them, but it's also a risk to have a flare during pregnancy, and you have to weigh the benefits & risks. Ultimately it is up to you, but your rheumatologist & OB should work together to decide what's best for you when you do get pregnant. Good luck!
