Does anybody still say that first thing on the first day of a new month for good luck? I still try to remember. I managed this month, maybe I knew I'd need extra good luck with the end of the world coming in a few weeks.

I've never heard of this. I just looked it up and it started as a British superstition. Interesting.

When I read your title I thought it would be the camp fire 'thing' ...ya know, if the smoke is coming towards you, you say, "white rabbit" x3
Anyone ever hear of this? Or know why/how either 'rabbit' sayings started?

I did when I was a kid, but its been at least 15 years since I've even thought of it.

Rabbit, Rabbit!!! I still try to do this every month, although with a kid it's usually, "Go back to bed! I mean, rabbit, rabbit!" I miss watching Nickelodeon in the morning and finding out what the day was.

I used to do this.  But these days I usually I forget and it's too late.  I'm not British or anything, I don't know where I picked it up.

We do rabbit, rabbit. I picked it up from Baby Sitter's Club Little Sister, IIRC. Been doing it since (although, I forget until after coffee more often than not, which is probably why I'm always effing screwed.)
