Just wondering if crab meat/imitation crab meat are safe to eat? I know we can't eat sushi but Publix has a crab, cream cheese, and cucumber roll that I'm seriously craving! It's not raw as far as I know so I'm hoping it's safe to eat
Went to a Japanese place for lunch earlier this week. I asked the guy if the crab meat was cooked. He told me it was imitation crab meat (aka "krab") and that it was raw, shredded fish.
I never thought it was raw before, but to be safe, I told them to skip it.
Got a crispy tempura shrimp roll, just with cucumbers and the sauce, and it was DIVINE!

I'm not depriving myself of sushi this time, except for high-mercury fish (thanks, PP for the link).
If you're eating at a reputable place (probably not the grocery store, but we don't have Publix here), you're probably going to be okay.
