Even though we're not ordering the bed itself yet, I think we're going to get T his mattress and bedding set for his birthday full size. What type of mattress should we get though? Firm? Soft? Pillow? Reversible? There are soooo many options! We only need a mattress as the bed is a platform, I don't know if that makes a difference....
I was told by the salesperson that the softness of the mattress doesn't really matter to kids because they are so light that they don't really sink into them the way adults do. However, if that's going to be his mattress into early adulthood, then you might as well get something that would be comfortable for an adult too. I wouldn't spend too much $$ on it though in case there's a lot of bed jumping and you have to replace it in 10 years.
We bought Lily a pillow top mattress. I definitely recommend getting some sort of mattress protector. Ours is fitted and has a 10 year warranty, so if anything should leak though to the mattress both will be replaced for free. Which is awesome since we haven't start potty training yet.
