DH suddenly really likes Hudson. I think it's "okay". I still prefer Rowan. He thinks the meaning of Rowan is weak, which doesn't make sense bc Hudson means son of Hud but whatever. He also said he doesn't like how many girls are named Rowan, even though I told him the rankings.
So, BNB, what say ye on Hudson?

Re: Honest thoughts on Hudson
I love Hudson, it's a little on the trendy side but I think it's a great name. I think Rowan could be one of those names that eventually could get taken by the girls, but it's a fine name. Of the two I think Hudson is a much stronger name.

Me too!!!!!!!!! Lol
I prefer Hudson to Rowan, but I don't love it. Hudson just immediately makes me think of the Hudson River (duh) and while it isn't a negative thing it isn't something I would want associated with my child in such a strong way.
That being said, Rowan is definitely starting to lean into unisex territory. I hate that boy names are at risk for that so much. If it makes you feel better, the only Connor I ever worked with as a counselor was a girl. So... nothing is safe at all.
The reason I can't get behind Rowan is because of the strong association I have with the college in New Jersey. Again, just another association I wouldn't want people to make with my kid the moment they hear the name.
I do like the PPs suggestion of Holden. Similar in sound and feel to Rowan and Hudson without the place connections and the girl "stealing" worries.

No more TTC for us. We are done, and at peace, as a family of 4.

And you never know, maybe Hudsyn will be the next big girl name a la Karsyn and Sawyer and Parker and Logan and Morgan and Taylor and...I'm depressing myself.
I wish someone could just name my baby for me. And not DH haha.

Hudson is too trendy for me. And I think it's a little typical to match with Danica.
And honestly before reading the post my gut reaction was "No!!! What happened to Rowan!"
I really don't think they compare. I think I'd rather have a name that is semi-popular with girls too than super trendy for my sex.

I can't do trendy. I'm glad I posted. I don't want to cross over to the dark side haha!!
What I really hope is something comes to us magically after we meet baby boy.
I really wish DH would share my style and just agree to Simon or August.

I'm with you on the not able to commit boat. I feel like this was easier last time.
Ditto. I actually know a woman named Rowan. I like it. Hudson is ok.
I've always loved, and still love, the name Hudson. It's just a question of whether you mind the popularity of the name?
I know girls names Rowan so it has a feminine association for me. I don't like it for a boy.
I prefer Hudson to Rowan. I agree with the PP who said they think Hudson is a stronger name.
Maybe it's because I have a female cousin named Rowan so I only see it as a girl name.
DH and I were talking about Hudson today and, while we both like it, we don't like how it's a place name and has the same ending sound as my SD, Boston. It's a no-go for us but it's still on my list.

Hudson actually means son of Hugh. Hud is a derivative of Hugh. However, I'm not one to get all crazy over name meanings unless it means "spawn of something evil" or something. LOL. Meanings just don't sway me one way or the other. I go by the sound and popularity.
I love Hudson (biased obviously) and it is really not popular in my area. For me though it has a lot of sentimental meanings - it's a very Canadian name (lots of Hudson geographical areas here) and NY, a place also dear to us. Also I love strong surnames and it's cute on a little boy and very aristocratic on a man. It's also a very old given name (there were men named "Hudson" on the Titanic).
We get a ton of compliments on it. People go out of their way to say that they love it. So that's been our experience with it.
I'm not a fan of Rowan, personally.
