I LOVE the name Katherine and have for many years. It is not only the name of my best friend from childhood (who is more like a sister) but I think it is the most beautiful name ever. I always knew when I used it, it would be a middle name. B/c it is too common for me to be a first name. 

With DD1 it did not go well with her first name. But with DD2 it is was supposed to be her middle name. But then I second guessed myself b/c I liked the idea of my girls having the same middle initial (No idea why). I'm kicking myself something major.

DD2 is called my her initials MJ by a few of my family members and the name is just her now so changing her middle name is not an option.

I regret not using it with DD2...I'm kinda sad b/c I may never have a chance to use it again. #3 is still in debate and I am hoping for a little boy.

This is why I can't commit to girl names!  I would regret not using too many.  Hold out on the hope that you may get to use it again.  3 girls would always balance out the 3 nephews if nothing else.  Or spontaneous twins!  (Probably more fun to name than raise though, lol).  I'm sure with as worried as I am about girl names I'll never have a girl.

Oh, and I agree on Katherine being a really beautiful name.  It's on our list as a middle name too if we have more than one girl.  I think all the different sounds in it are just very aesthetically pleasing.

The name only grows with meaning...when I married my husband found out it is his great grandmothers middle name and also I now have a SIL I love more than words could say who I would be honored to name one of my daughters after. 

You are right C. I will probably be able to use it again...to balance the boys I always dreamed up a million boys names and look where I am  Twins sounds like alot but if the Lord puts them there I will embrace it. I kinda like the idea...don't tell T!

I agree. It is a very beautiful name. If you don't get the chance to use if for a daughter, could you use it as your middle name? Or if you like the middle name that you already have, could you have two middle names?

I'm sorry. I agree that Katherine is beautiful as it is my DD's first name. I didn't find it too common, it is ranked about 60, so we used it happily.

Maybe you'll get to use it one day.

I agree Katherine is beautiful. We used the just as lovely Kate for DD's name. Maybe you'll have your boy this time, and another girl later
