Recommend your camera

We're looking for a new camera - with a budget of about $500.  My dad has the Olympus EVolt 410 and I borrow it all the time and love it.  It's 10MP and both it and the EVolt 420 are in our price limit.  I don't want a point and shoot - right now the manual stuff is lost on me but if we get a good camera now we could upgrade lenses, learn the functions...so - any suggestions?

I have heard this is really good!  It's been called the "professional point and shoot."

  • Loading the player...
  • Nikon D40 DSLR. That is what we have and the camera body with a basic lens kit will cost about 499.00. I LOVE it!!

  • We have an Evolt E500 that we bought 2 years ago for about $600. It was a bundle pack that included 2 lenses and a 1GB memory card. We got it on Black Friday for that price... so maybe keep an eye out then? I've heard great things about the Nikons (D40, D80, D90) but we didn't have the $$ for them. My coworker has a Sony Alpha that she bought in a kit like mine (2 lenses) for a little bit more, and it has built-in image stabilization (the EVolt doesn't).

I know the EVolt isn't the most highly recommended camera, but I LOVE it. LOVE it. It's an affordable SLR, and that was what was most important for us.

  • Looks like the newest model is the 510 and maybe has image stabilization?  Here's the bundle kit we got...
