Excuse the parenting interruption. STTN related

Whose toddler still doesn't STTN and what are you planning on doing about it? Henry can, but doesn't consistently. He's probably up 2-3 nights per week for 1-3 hours at a time. I'm seriously so over this, but I really don't know what to do at this point.

  • DS still wakes up but he's usually just thirsty and goes back to sleep on his own.  So we're not really doing anything.  If he was up for 1-3 hours at I time I think I'd be much more proactive.

What have you tried so far?

We've tried bringing him into our bed -- he just lays awake bothering us and eventually we put him back into his crib where he falls asleep on his own

We've tried CIO. He will scream for a couple hours then go to sleep on his own, just to do the same thing next time.

We did Jay Gordon to night wean and it had a very positive effect on Hen's sleeping. I think even if you aren't still night nursing it is a great method for encouraging better sleep. But I'm kind of a broken record about JG.

Hen is night weaned. We only nurse once before bed. But I'll look into JG. We are totally desperate now.

Hmm... maybe you could try something about his environment?  Let him pick out a night light or special doll?

Since he's still in a crib, I'd let him quietly play so long as you don't have to get up, will he do that?  Or does he demand that you be there?

(P&R, gotta go to a meeting, but GL!)

As long as he's touching me, hes quiet. If I'm not in the room or leave him he screams.

I should say, he falls asleep on his own without issue each night. This is just for middle of the night wake-ups.

Does he have something else that can comfort him in the night? I think I remember seeing a blog post about creepy elmo eyes, but is he attached to that? Two days last week DCP forgot to send lovey home, so we had to substitute and A went to sleep ok, but woke up crying a couple times each night. If he had something he was attached to or that comforted him maybe he'd wake up, find it, and snuggle back in.

Hmmm. Can you try leaving something of yours in the crib with him? Like a shirt of yours or something? A friend of mine did this, and also put pictures of her and her H in the crib. I thought it was weird at the time, but it worked for her!
