Why do people pick same letter names for their children? I once babysat for a family where the mom and all 3 girls names started with A. Then of course there's the Duggar's.
We're one and done, but before that decision was final I'd nixed a name or two specifically because it started with the same letter as DS's name.
I can get behind a same middle name or something if it has significance. I just don't understand the same letter thing. Not trying to be rude, just curious for other's thoughts.
Re: Same letter names for siblings ?
I don't get it either. My Mom and her sisters are named Shelley, Sandy, and Sally. My mother hated it! My Aunt Sandy is the only one who stuck by the tradition and both her kids have 'R' names.
Luckily none of my potential kid names start with an R or a C. So, I'm good.
On the same token, next DS's name is picked out, has major significance and Starts with the same letter as DS1. If it is a girl, though, she will have a name with an entirely different letter.
Sometimes it just happens. However, I don't understand doing it on purpose.
How did they even know who was getting yelled at when they were kids?! My bro was Tony and I was Candi (do NOT call me Candi as an adult) and I could never tell who my folks were shouting at from the other room. All I heard was "EEEEEE!"
Yeah, my kid is is the youngest grandchild with a "J" name. There are 3 others. I didn't consider cousins' names when naming my kid. MIL has mentioned how she has "so many J grandkids". But... my SIL did name her 2 boys "J" names on purpose.
Enunciation? Actually, they tell stories of my Grandma getting herself confused and using the same middle name for them (though they didn't actually have the same middle names) when yelling at them. Essentially it resulted in, you hear a yell, you come a running.
Dad: B.B.
mom : B.B.B
DS: B.B.B
DD: B.B.
If we have another boy his name with start with an S too. Not because we want to be the next Duggars, but because we really love the name.
I knew a woman who has 8 children, and they all start with H. Their last name starts with an H too. It's effing exhausting.
We started out saying we would specifically avoid doing that. But, we're at the point where we are expecting a little boy in February and still haven't found a single name we like, so at this point if we find a name that works we're not going to rule it out because it starts with a J or an E.
I know a woman who starts with a G, as does her husband, so they went out of their way to give all three of their boys unique (and fug) G names. I think that's just bizarre and her kids are going to hate her for it later.
I wouldn't be my style if I planned on having 3+ kids but one of our girl names begins with the same letter as DS' name so they may have the same first initial if we ever have a daughter. But I'm convinced I'm only going to have boys so we probably won't have to worry about that.
All the boys in DH's family have names that start with the same letter but his sister is different so who knows if it was intentional or just happened that way.
I think it's weird. I usually respond to people who point it out by saying "Oh. How nice." and if people don't point it out I usually have at least one middle of the night thinking session where I wonder if they did it on purpose, then shrug, and go back to sleep. To each their own.
We have theme names. Our babies all have old people names. So whatever.
My Blog
I wouldn't go out of my way to name them with the same letter, but if I loved 2 names that started with the same letter for other reasons, and they didn't sound too much alike, I'd consider it.

beta @ 5w0d = 12,026! u/s 4/22/14 @ 8w1d it's twins!
My parents went a little nutso with this.
Dad- Daniel
Mom- Mary Ann
Brother- David
Sister- Marci
Me- Mollie
Then we had a female dog - Mickie.
My dad still mixes me and Marci up. i told DH no Ds, Ms or Bs (DH and my BIL both have B names) for names. It sucks, because I love the name Benjamin.
I appreciate it most when people don't got with an easy letter, like B. They go with a hard one, example: Xavier, Xander, Xandra.
Those parents can never be accused of not putting effort into kids names.
Oh, and there was a family we knew who's last name started with M.
They had 5 girls- a set of identical twin girls, a set of fraternal twin girls and a single. All with first names starting with M.
:headdesk:
This is how I feel but then sometimes it's both whacktacular because they want it to have the same letters.
My little bro and I have the same initials. (Or we did before I got married and changed my last name). I'm not sure if it was intentional or it just happened. It's a little nerdy, but it didn't really bother us.
My son and one of my dogs have the same first initial as me, so if we have any more kids (or dogs) I need to make sure I mix it up so we're not all matchy-matchy.
My sister and I both have K names, but I don't think I will do the same letter thing with a future sibling for A.
My best friend has a DS and a DD both with E names but I don't think it's odd at all.
I'm not side eyeing anyone, just curious as to why it happens on purpose.
