I feel so lost in this gray area we are in and I'm not sure how to proceed. As you know, we are currently working with a smaller center that provides ST, OT, and MH services for Owl. Owl will be graduating out of OT in a few weeks! A few weeks ago before she began phonating, the SLP said she would stop ST because the selective mutism was a MH issue, not speech. Last week was the first week of Owl phonating during ST but the SLP only saw her in the lobby for a few moments before letting us start the session of playing with her intern, she didn't show up again until the session was over. In MH, we are doing PCAT, a toddler version of PCIT, and I feel like we could be doing more to push Owl but the MHT doesn't want to push her, she thinks we are still making progress. Blah.
Needless to say, I am annoyed with the SLP, I really like her but feel like she isn't focusing on Owl because she felt it was a MH issue. I am annoyed with the MHT because she doesn't get that Owl is the kind of kid that needs to be pushed forward to learn new skills. I am happy with the OT, she has done her job very well.
No one will dx Owl with anything at this place, they are treating her for PTSD and she has opened up but I still feel like there is something more going on.
We have an eval with RC in a couple weeks and I want them to pick her up for their program because I feel like she needs help. She is phonating now but will only repeat parts of words when we say them or make repetitive sounds on her own, she hasn't been sleeping much or very well to the point where she now sleeps on the couch so the baby can sleep in peace, she eats when she is told to but doesn't really care to, she spaces out a lot, the list goes on and on.
Obviously, I am concerned but I feel like no one is listening to my concerns at the current center. I can't just take her out and find somewhere else, we have to have court orders and all that because she's in the foster system.
I feel like RC could be our saving grace but am so scared that they won't deem her needy enough and we will be stuck where we are. The pedi at the current center is referring us to a neurologist because of her FTT and we have a MRI scheduled for January as a followup to some full body xrays we had done this summer to check for signs of abuse from the bio family.
Is RC Rady Children's? If so, we had a great experience with them. Who are you going to see? We went through the ADI/DEC and they were great. We also had evals with OT there and did ST through them both private and in a class called Stepping Stones. Are you covered through the Regional Center? I'm currently on the other side of the country, but still have some contacts in the area if you are trending towards ASD issues. If I can help out in anyway, tell you about our experience, etc...whatever you need, just let me know!
