S O sick LO...

LO had a cold last week, and fever, congestion, and coughing since last night. Is it normal for LO's to poop more often when sick? She's pooping several times a day, and usually only goes every few days. TMI, but the poop looks normal, yellow and seedy. Should I worry?

  • V's BMs usually change when he is sick (frequency and/or appearance). I wouldn't worry about it. Hope she feels better soon!

  • Has she had normal wet diapers? If she cries, are there tears? Does her skin appear dry? Is she eating the same amount?  You want to make sure that she doesn't get dehydrated, even though she may not want to drink milk/formula because she feels like crap.  When Adalyn was sick, the pedi told us to feed her half-pedialyte half-formula to help her drink it down.  If that didn't work, just give her the pedialyte.  It is really important for them to remain hydrated, especially if she gets diarrhea or poops more than normal.

As long as her fever is controlled and goes down with the tylenol, all  you can really do is clear that mucus (even though it sucks and it is just awful) as much as you can.  I have both the NoseFrieda and THIS CONTRAPTION that I think works better.  I found that the saline spray that is in the metal can worked the best for us, but the drops in the plastic bottle were cheaper.  I also did a kind of nasal irrigation where with the can I would squirt it in one nostril and suck it out the other.  Talk about a mother's love.  At least the with contraption that I like more than the NoseFrieda I never worried about getting the boogies.

GL and I hope that your LO gets over this bug soon!
