Gift ideas for couples/neighbors?

Any good ideas for gifts for couple friends & good neighbors? One year we got board games, which was kind of fun, but I don't know that they really got used much. Last year we did some restaurant gift cards, but we overspent what they gave us, and it was slightly awkward. Something that does not reveal exactly how much we spent would probably be a good idea.

I need some fresh ideas, whatcha got?

  • Edible Arrangement or gourmet chocolate covered fruits.

Movie night with a nice cuddle throw blanket, box of microwave popcorn and some movie candies, 6 pack of Coke, and a DVD?

    This.

We've done this before for a couple that we're really close friends with, and it went over well. We bought the big holiday tin of popcorn and paired it with a basket of Cokes and Sprites, Red Vines, M&Ms, etc., and threw in 2 BluRays - one for her and one for him. We had a lot of fun putting it together, too, but we made it a little more expensive than it has to be.

Other suggestions.. a gift card to something they'd like is always a safe bet. I've never been disappointed with a Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts gift card when someone has said, "Well, I know how much you love coffee.." ;)

  • Brewery tour or some form of alcohol?

Do they have kids? A babysitter offer?

I like the food ideas, but personally would prefer beer.

  • How close are you with them? How much do you want to spend?

These are good couple friends (since childhood) and the neighbors are good friends too. Looking to spend about $50 per couple.

  • I'm giving my DCP and her husband a movie and a festive tin of Kit Kats

    Hmmm...

Personally, I would enjoy any of the following:

    - A nice bouquet or holiday themed centerpiece.

-A gift card for a night at the movies?

    - Tickets to a comedy club (you could get tix for yourself as well and go together)

    - A good bottle of wine (or port for DH)

    - Maybe not an edible arrangement (because you have to eat those pretty much right away) but a nice gift basket filled with products from local places
