TTC after 35

To Stim or Not to Stim

I need to get two wisdom teeth extracted. They have been giving me trouble and I am currently on amoxicillian for an infection because they are irritated. I got a BFN today and I am supposed to start gonal-f on cd3 (sometime this holiday weekend). I was going to get my wisdom teeth extracted around cd8 (complete with x-rays etc). Should I just skip the stims this cycle and do an natural iui? Injections and the pain and trouble of wisdom teeth removal seems like too much to do at the same time. What do you guys think?

Re: To Stim or Not to Stim

  • Hmmm.  I had my wisdom teeth taken out in my early twenties, so I know what that's like. I was swollen and in discomfort for several days afterwards (though a couple of mine were impacted -- not sure if that's the case with you).  IMO it would be best to get the teeth done and do IVF the next cycle.  You don't want to be having to rush to the clinic for monitoring when your cheeks are swollen like a chipmunk's and you're drooling.

  • I've never done the stims, but from what I remember of getting my wisdom teeth removed was that I was pretty miserable for a couple of days, and that was with pretty easy to remove teeth and no problems after.  I think I would hold off a month on the stims so you can deal with the one thing at a time.

  • Thanks! I spoke to DH and he also thinks we just go with a natural IUI this month because oral surgery isn't a walk in the park.

  • Yeah, wisdom teeth can be rough- you might sail through or you could end up pretty miserable for a week or so, no way of knowing. Just remember: NO STRAWS!! Dry sockets are hell. And from personal experience- try not to even look in a mirror til maybe 3 days post-op. I did the day after and it made me cry- I was all bruise-yellow and misshapen. Yucko. Good luck!
