how long to supply increase?

My DS's tongue tie was snipped today.  I have been having supply issues because he wasn't effectively latching and therefore wasn't draining my breasts when he ate.  My supply is crummy, but I have been supplementing during the day with pumped milk (i either have DS nurse before and after getting the pumped milk, or I pump again, depending on the time of day, naps, etc).  I am also taking fenugreek and drinking mother's milk tea and pumping after as many feeds as I can.  DS has also been eating non-stop now that he can latch, and I let him continue to suck after he has drained me.

Does anyone know how long it may take for my supply to increase now that DS is nursing effectively?  A couple of days? Weeks?

I just want to make sure that if my supply doesn't increase that I get in to the LC early enough to fix it.   Thanks!

Re: how long to supply increase?

  • DS is 5.5 weeks old, so still young, although I wish we had caught this sooner.

2 to 3 days to an increase sounds good. Thanks!

We are possibly getting same procedure at similar age done for LO...how did he react?  Any special care required at incision site?

Honestly, it was very simple. DS screamed for a split second, mostly because he was mad at being held down by the nurse and me. He nursed immediately for almost 20 mins and fell asleep in my arms.

The ENT said it is rare but he has had babies sleep through the procedure. Some also scream their heads off. H
Just remind yourself it's for the best and you will do just fine.

He was slightly fussy for the rest of the day and just needed to be held, so don't plan on getting much done after.

  • Glad to hear LO did ok and is nursing well. Hopefully your supply should increase in just a few days.
