Ds has a terrible phlegmy cough that he has had since Saturday. What can you give 6 yr old for it if anything?
2ndly should we have made him go to school? He has had this awful cough and random fever throughout the day and evening since saturday but he plays and eats and acts totally fine, just sounds like he is coughing up a lung every couple minutes. Are we being push overs not making him go to school? He is in first grade.
Re: 2 part WWYD?
I'm not sure what you can do during the day, but I know I have read that if you put vix on the bottom of their feet at night and then put socks on them, they wake up an entire new person, not sure if it works, but I've read it quite a few times...
I think you made the right decision keeping him home, I remember being in school trying to concentrate and when a kid in the class was coughing uncontrollably every few minutes, it was really distracting. I imagine especially so with a class full of six year olds.
GL! Hope he feels better!
My worries would be him getting others sick and him being able to focus through the cough and distracting others. If he is up and down to blow his nose and hacking lots, it could impact other kid's focus. I'd be torn.
I think you did the right thing in keeping him home. If he sounds like he is coughing up a lung every few minutes not only is he going to be distracted, but he'll be distracting others. And of course, you don't want him infecting the other kids/teachers. This spoken from a mom of a child who gets pneumonia almost every time he gets a cold. I HATE when I go into my childs classroom and there is a kid that is obviously sick, coughing, snot dripping down his face etc. B/c I know that there is a good chance we will end up in the ER and possibly hospitalized from that "little cold."
you did the right thing keeping him home.
a) he'll likely recover faster if he takes it easy/rests
b) the last thing the teacher/other parents want is a sick kid infecting them/their kid the week of Tgiving. It's just rude ti send a sick kid to school/activity where they can get others sick and with a fever even intermitten he's likely contagious.
Any school/day care I know of has a rule that you can't send a kid to school if he's had a fever in the last 24 hours.
As far as the cough goes, there are some good OTC natural honey based remedies, or you can just give honey.
Warm showers, humidifiers, and if it lasts more than a couple weeks, see a doctor.
