I started back to work last week. On Monday I got 7 oz TOTAL from pumping and it was from two sessions. As the week went in I only got 6 oz total from both sessions. Now today I only got 5.5 oz total and I pump for 20 min each time. What the heck is going on! My supply can't be dipping that fast can it? I am taking More Milk Plus, eating oatmeal every day and drinking a ton of water. I'm having to send some formula to the sitter to make up for what I can't pump out. I am really hoping I don't dry up yet. There really isn't any way I can add a pumping session at work and I nurse a lot when I'm home. Any suggestions?? I can't imagine 5.5 oz for two pumping sessions is normal!

Re: Low Pumping Output
I would check the membranes on your pump. Also I know they are expensive but a different pump might help. I switched between a couple and the Medla PIS worked best for me with the other pumps I had low output. I've heard some ladies look at pictures of their little ones and imagine that its them nursing not a pump and that helps them with their let down.
Good luck!
1) replace your pump membranes
2) when you pump, make sure it has a tight seal (no milk drops in the cups), or it won't suction as well
3) when it seems like it's done, push the let down button again (I have a Medela PISA so I don't actually know if other pumps have this). I always get a second let down from doing this and the drops add up.
4) you are using a double electric pump, right? What kind of pump are you using??
5) pump for a minute or two after the milk stops coming out
6) do breast compressions while you pump
7) It's really stressful to try and meet a quota, but try to relax. It will be fine!
