Im a big Vol fan. I knew it was time for Dooley to go, but it still makes me sad. He's such a class act, character guy. I think he'd be a great AD somewhere, like he was at Louisiana Tech.

I'm not surprised.  We have our longest loosing streak in a century and we were creamed by Vandy.  It was only a matter of time. 

I hope the rumors about Gruden are just that- rumors.  I don't think he would be a good fit at UT.  Think back to Kiffin.  That didn't go so swell. 

 

 

Agree. Not surprising at all. Unfortunate because I really wanted him to succeed but it was clear a change needed to be made. Saturdays game was atrocious. 

Thank you! I am so sick and tired of the Gruden speculation. I just don't see it. NFL does not equal NCAA success. We need someone with NCAA success who can come in here and win.

I hope Patterson and Hunter stay, although not likely. I am iffy on Bray. He is just so sporadic. And I hear Peterman is actually really good and I am glad they RSed him this year for another year of eligibility. Apparently he is a really good dual threat guy who can run as well as he can throw.

I think him hiring Sunseri as his D coordinator was a huge mistake- in hindsight obviously. I will admit- I rode the Sunseri train pre season. Our D was GUTTED all year. It was horrendous. Made me miss Wilcox and Sirmon.

No way Bobby Petrino is hired. If so, I will be really pissed off and will have a hard time supporting the team then. I know people want to win, but come on. The dude misappropriated AD funds by hiring a 25 year old woman in the AD because he was BANGING her. He only got caught because he was giving his little mistress a ride on the back of his motorcycle and he wrecked. Thankfully they both lived but that is not the character I want at UT.

I would like to see a Charlie Strong, Bob Stoops, or Gary Patterson.

I also agree. I think our BB team is going to be a decent team this year. I remember last year in a game it was really quiet.. like eerily. And then out of no where, Cuonzo yells through the TV... "PICK SOMEONE UP".

I went to pick my wife up. That guy is intimidating and a great motivator.

Exactly. He scares and excites me. It's the only way I cope - I look forward to the next season of sports. If basketball lets me down, I'll have to start liking baseball again.

In my opinion, we need a solid coach that can rebuild the way Spurrier did at South Carolina.  And we, as fans, need to be patient and realize it will take several years to do so. 

Hell, I would take Fulmer back at this point.  In hindsight, I think our program is in worse shape now than if he would have stayed. 

 

Our fanbase is annoyingly impatient. That is why I lurk more often than post at VolNation.com forums. People there demand a National Championship EVERY YEAR and then cite 1998 as their reason for high expectations. That was 15 years ago, bros. Rebuilding takes time.

Spurrier.  Think of Spurrier's eventual success at South Carolina.  It takes time and patience but can be done. 

True story. As a fan of the sport, it was tough seeing Lattimore getting hurt again and out another season.

DH works on the crew of the Dooley Show, so he knew early yesterday morning that the firing had taken place. He texted me 1 minute before the show went live and said that the coach had just shown up because he'd been in his office all morning crying. That kind of sucks.

I guess it wasn't hard to see coming. I'm not upset by it- I think it was the right thing to do. I am surprised by all of the people who thought he should have kept his job, and I laughed when Dave Hart said in the conference that Dooley has made our team better. Nice guy, not the right coach for our team.

Too much hype surrounding Gruden. I don't think he's going to be the one, and I'm not sure who I want the new coach to be.

And about Coach Martin being motivational? Really? Seems like a great coach, but he spoke at an assembly at our school, and all of us, teachers and students, could hardly stay awake.

Public speaking vs motivating a sports team I would say are two different things. Plus, there are more ways to motivate a team besides just speaking haha.

We've had this conversation before in the thread where Ella asked for restaurant recommendations.

But yeah, I agree about the motivating a sports team vs. public speaking. I guess I just expected him to be more charismatic. Quite the departure from Bruce Pearl lol.

I am (outside of, actually.)  I leave tomorrow.  Outlet shopping on Wed before the crazy crowds descend.  Hiking on Friday, maybe the game on Saturday.  There is talk of Dwood but I am trying to dampen that. 

I wanted to go outlet shopping on Wednesday, but I don't think DH can get the day off of work.

I don't blame you for trying to damped the DW talk. I'm not a huge fan.

DH is really sad to see him go, he really likes what Dooley has done with the Tennessee football program.  Go 'Dores! ;-)
