S+TM's, will you take a look at my registry??

Would anyone with actual baby experience be willing to take a look at my registry and see if there's anything I have forgotten? I've tried to hit numerous price points for my shower. I know I have a lot of big ticket items on there, but that is more for the completion coupon than anything (although, with over 70 people that will almost for sure be coming to my shower, most of which are close family members, I'm sure that there will be people going in on these items). I want to make sure I haven't forgotten anything and also make sure I haven't crossed the line from "excited about my baby" to "greedy looking b!tch". Thanks in advance!

Hey, pretty girl, it feels so right,
Just like it's meant to be
All wrapped up in my arms so tight
Hey, pretty girl, it feels so right
Life's a long and winding ride
Better have the right one by your side
And happiness don't drag its feet
Time moves faster than you think

Re: S+TM's, will you take a look at my registry??

  • Here's my feedback:

-I would take off the blankets and all the baby bath towel stuff. We got a million blankets anyway and the bath towels and washcloths were a waste- we started using ours because they're bigger.

-For things like the car seat cover, I would do something gender neutral instead of pink if you're planning on having more kids.

  • ETA - I agree with both things the PP said.

You have a much better list than I did with my son!!! Here's what I noticed:

    1. We loved the sleep sacks (after we stopped using the receiving/swaddling blankets) and ended up buying them for him as he grew so you can always register for larger sizes too

2.. Pacifier clips may not actually clip to the soothie pacifiers that you've registered for. We needed a different brand.

     3. We have an ear thermometer but generally use a regular one (rectally) because it's more exact.

     HTH

  • I wouldn't register for a lot of bottles, find one your baby will take first. Also agree with pp that I would recommend a regular thermometer. If anything is wrong they will want a rectal temp anyway. Last it seemed like a lot of onesies and blankets. I'd see what you receive at a baby shower or gifts or hand me downs first. You'll be amazed how that kind of stuff adds up. I didn't see how many diaper genie refill bags you registered for, but triple it...

  • Thanks for the feedback so far! We're only planning on one LO at this point, which is why I went all out with the pink. :) Also, I registered for one of those little health gift packs that contains a regular thermometer.

Couple of questions about your feedback:

With the bottles - I did register for 3 different brands, 2 packs of each brand. My thought was that I could try one kind and, if they worked for baby, I would then open the 2nd pack of that brand and return/exchange the others. If they didn't work, I could return/exchange the 2nd pack of that brand and move on to the next to try. With that logic in mind, should I still be registering for less?

With the onesies, I registered for one pack in each size. What size should I stop with so that I'm not registering for too many? Along that same line, what size in sleeper sacks should I register up to? How many per size?

ETA: I also registered for 3 different types of newborn pacifiers. I know the clips will work with 2 of those kinds, which is why I put them on there. Should I hold off on that until I know for sure which kind she likes? I also didn't register for anything other than the newborn ones, because I figured I should wait to get those until I figure out which kind she prefers. Does that sound right or should I be putting them for different ages on there?

  • Also, one more question. Should I be registering for things like baby tylenol, orajel, gas drops, etc.? I thought I should but Buy Buy Baby doesn't have them on their website, so I would have to go into the store for it.

i don't really see the point in registering for those things, but I mean I wouldn't side eye it. I do think you should rethink the bottle strategy. disclaimer: I think my daughter only had 10 bottles in her life so I'm far from an expert but I would go the route of buying one or two until you find a bottle that works, then buying more. It just seems potentially really wasteful if your kid hates the first three kinds and loves the fourth, you've still wasted 3 boxes of several bottles, if that makes sense.

The onesie thing, I literally kept DD in onesies until she outgrew the biggest size I could find (24 mo). I know a lot of moms don't though. Maybe it just seemed like a lot because they were all listed after one another, but I guess one pack of each size is reasonable though. I think you registered for Carter's but something to keep in mind is sizing. Ferber onesies run incredibly, incredibly small. Like my dd was relatively small and was in a 6-9 month Ferber onesie before we left the hospital, so pay attention to that and try and check them in out in person. I really liked the Carter's onesies at target. Just one you? I think that's the brand. They were super soft.

Ok phew hopefully that answered some questions.

I see what you mean. Maybe still register for the same 3 types of bottle, but just 1-2 single bottles rather than the multipacks?

  • I woukd replace the ear thermometer with a forehead one. The ear one we tried was way off, and my son's ears were just too small. The forehead one always matched the rectal.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

What brand did you get? That's actually what I had hoped to get but the ones that I see on their site have horrible reviews.

  • Just get the Vicks digital rectal. It's super quick and accurate.

  • I noticed two things. You registered for the Nam paci holders but not for the Nam pacis. The holders fit over a specific part of the paci so I don't think they will fit the ones you registered for. Also, do you already have a Bumbo? You registered for the tray but I didn't see the actual Bumbo on there.

  • The Bumbo seat is right under the tray when I look at the registry. I thought I had registered for the MAM paci's, but it must not have worked when I scanned them. Thanks for pointing that out!

I agree with all of the above, especially the bolded. Baby towels suck. And you will get a million blankets. I didn't register for a single one and received 8 at my shower and as baby gifts.

ETA: I'd add another Boppy cover. It's nice to have a spare when your kid throws up all over one.

  • We LOVE our forehead thermometer, so I would suggest that over the ear thermometer.

There are quite a few blankets on there and you are bound to get a ton of those at the shower anyways. But you can always return some if you get way too many.

I think you registry looks great, very well-rounded!

  • i would register for diapers and wipes also... that is something people will probably buy for you even if you dont put it on your registery but its still good to put it on there.

Also, a humidifier was used a lot when DS was younger.

Other things that we used are our video baby monitor. You want to use the angelcare the whole time. I dont remember if you had a baby bath on there.. but that is good to register for also

I didn't register for diapers or many wipes because MH's paintball team is throwing him a diaper party...basically their excuse for getting together and getting a keg, I'm sure. lol I did register for a humidifier, though. It doesn't look like one, though, so maybe that's why you missed it. It's kinda shaped like an egg with a monkey on top. And I did register for a bath. :)

I think your strategy on the bottles is fine.  We went through a couple types at first to figure out what he liked but then when he was older he would use the others without any issue, so it's not like they will probably just go to waste if she doesn't like them initially.

I think one pack in each size is fine.  That said, people will probably buy you onesies (just like the blankets) whether you register for them or not.  I personally left them off my registry because I thought it made it look too long and cluttered.  That's just me though.

  • I am a FTM, so take this advice for its worth...

I also registered for the NoseFrida, i have heard great reviews about it. BBB also carries replacement filter packs that have 20 extra filters. I am not sure how quickly LOs go through those filters, but maybe register for the the refills as well.

I read on the April Moms Blog that changing your EDD on your registry is a good idea. Bump it up a few weeks.  They send you a completion coupon about 4 wees before your EDD. If you move up the date, you get the coupon earlier. That way you dont have to wait until you are 36 weeks to  get the other items you want. I never knew this, but i have seen friend's registries that have has their moved up a month, and always thought it was a typo :)

On top of that, i heard you can use Bed Bath and Beyond coupons at BBB. Make sure to let family and friends know this, because everyone seems to have 20 Bed/Bath/Beyond coupons laying around the house, and they honor expired coupons :)

Thanks for posting your registry. I am currently comparing mine to yours and listening to all of this advice :)
