Ds had 104.4 fever last night:(

My dh is OOT for hunting and of course his first night gone ds gets sick. Around noon he was warm so I checked and 102.3 fever. Out of nowhere. He had been sick with runny green nose a week ago, and then a week of cough and clear nose (so 2 weeks total) and no fever in that time. So I gave him a cool bath and some advil to bring it down. After nap I checked it was 98. SO good. About 2 hours later he was starting to act really clingy and whiney. Checked and it was 103. Went to urgent care and gave him some advil on the way. By the time dr saw him 2 hours later it was 100.8. So he had a ear infection in one ear. We leave and takes about an hour and a half to get home. By then he was crying hard so I checked it, 104.4!!! I about freaked. Got him a cool bath, he ate 2 icees, and got a cool pad on his head. It went down to about 100.8 in a lilttle over an hour. SO scary. I am 3 months pregnant too so my stress was just so crazy I as so scared. He has only had 1 fever of 102 before so it was just scary. Thank  you for reading this if you made it this far. Praying tomorrow he is better and glad dh will be home.

  • That is scary. Have you talked to a doctor since? That is pretty high, I'd want him seen again, unless it has been low since. I would freak and check it every few hours at night.

  • I would call my doc, do an alternate of Advil and Tylenol if my doc okays it and do Luke warm baths in between. High fevers scare the shiiit out of me because my little brother used to have febrile seizures.

  • I am back to say I am freaked out for you. I saw pp shared a scary story. I don't want to share my scary fever story. Just... Keep checking his fever, k?

  • Yes I called them right away as soon as I took the temp twice with diff thermometers to make sure it was right. I did everything they said and they said to give it time for the meds to work. It didn't take long with the icees and the cool bath for it to come down with the meds also. His bedtime is 8, I kept him up till 11:15 which was his next med time for tylonal to help him out. He went to bed then at 11:15, he had a fever of 100.8 by that time so I felt much better,  I did wake him at 230 to check it again, give him a diff med, and to change diaper. He was at 99, I got up again at 530 and he felt really cool so I didn't check. Also let him sleep in lighter jammies than usual. Then he got up at 8. Highest it's gotten today was 101.8. I have just kept meds in till he breaks the fever. I will hopefully be able to just give his anti-biotics tomorrow but we see. I don't like giving too much but that fever was SO scary. He just turned 2 last week. Poor baby.

  • I have three inlaws that are RN so I remembered them saying how fast kids go from bad to really bad/dying:( So I knew it was really serious. I slept little last night and just checked the monitor often and him. I didn't take him back because it went down and has not gone that high today. I will still watch him again tonight but he went ot sleep at 9:15, so I will check him at 12, 3, and 6. He's my baby and I just was terrified. Thank you for the concern ladies it was horrible and I never want this again.

You mean alternate Tylenol and Advil/Motrin. Advil and Motrin are the same thing :

I am so sorry you were alone. I am glad you got advice. I wasn't sure from your OP if you knew how bad it could be. A friend growing up lost her little sister. We all played princesses several times a week. I freak over fevers. I hope I didn't sound harsh or make you think I was judging.

I hope he feels better. You deserve a hug and chocolate.

No way did I feel you were Judgy. I know how scary it is and was very scared. I just checked his temp and it's 98, I still will check it through the night just in case. I appreciate the thoughts and concern. Trust me I was freaked but trying to stay calm! Plus I was a bridesmaid today in a wedding! My mil who is an angel watched him and I was only gone 3 hours. In that time his fever stayed low and he played with nana. I only did my pics, waited for the ceremony to end and left right away. I'm ready for dh to be back tomorrow.

  • He has a 102.3 fever now. Has said daddy at least 100 times. Have cool bath again and meds, plus the head cooler sticky pad is on his head again. He's snuggled on the couch watching up while hugging 2 tiggers. Dh went hunting 6 hours away. They took one car as always and has said he'd come home. I told him to stay because he never gets to go, he works so hard for us and is a great dad and hubby. I can do this for the 2 1/2 days he's gone. He will be home today around 4. He's so ready and has been calling and texting a ton. Ds literally got fever 3 hours after dh left for his trip. Poor kid: I will give his anti biotics 2 full days to work, if he gets over 103 I will take him again, of he still has fever tomorrow I will take him. Poor baby
