IVFers, how did you feel post-ER?

We just triggered at 9pm for ER 9am Sunday morning.  We're supposed to go to an early T'giving with friends at 4pm Sunday afternoon - think I'll be up for it or too tired/crampy/etc?

I was MISERABLE for the first 24 hours. We were in a hotel and decided just to go downstairs to the restaurant for dinner that night and I was so bloated and crampy it really wasn't pleasant. I had the worst gas pains and diarrhea all day. I mean like, sitting on the toilet and holding the walls and hollering kind of pain! Poor DH just had to listen, I was in too much pain to even be embarrassed! Sooo for me, I'd be worried it would be too soon but I'm not sure my pain was "normal".

I may be in the minority, but I felt fine. I was tired from the anesthesia for a few hours, but no discomfort, pain, or bloating for me. I took the day after off work and I didn't need to. I cleaned the house instead:-(. Dinner should be good to go.

With both of my ERs I could have gone out later that day.  I had minimal (if any cramping) and no spotting.  If anything, I was just a little tired/lazy.  I don't really know if I'm the norm though... can you play it by ear?

Absolutely!  Just wanted to know what people's experiences were.  I've been so lucky so far - minimal bloating/discomfort and huge response to meds.  I hope ER is as easy.

LauraKat - that sounds HORRIBLE.  I'm so sorry you had such a tough go of it :-(  How are you feeling now that you are home?

After all 3 of my retrievals, I have been exhausted, emotional and sore. All I really want to do is lay on the couch, order take out and rent a movie...
This usually goes on for a couple days after too.

My belly was really sore and the only thing that felt okay was laying in bed on my back with a heating pad on my belly and a pillow on top of it for a little pressure. I was in bad shape until the third day.

all three egg retrievals : Exhausted, very, very sore, difficult to use the restroom, belly bloated / swollen.

The anesthesia makes me super tired the rest of the day...

Hate to tell you this, but it doesn't seem like I am the only one but I was in lots of pain after both retrievals. It is fair for me to say I am a wimp! I felt sick after and for about 3 to 5 days, felt like a horse kicked me in the stomach. I was taking the only pain meds my RE allowed, Tylenol with codeine every 3 to 4 hours even though the bottle said 4 to 6 hours. It didn't help much with the pain but would knock me out. There were times I felt better and would get up to only realize it was the lying down that made me feel better. They only got 9 eggs the first time and 7 my second retrieval. I thought before that the more eggs the more pain but not true in my case. My second retrieval was harder on me. My RE also recommends 24 hours of bed rest after the retrieval. With all that being said, I usually read that most women seem to feel fine after and this is the first post I have read that had more women feel yucky after. Sorry ladies to hear that, but glad I am not the only one!

1st ER I was fine. A little crampy & bloated, but nothing that would hold me back.

2nd ER - I won't go in to details, but polar opposite from #1

Thank you all for sharing your experiences!!  I guess it's pretty variable :-)  Big hugs to those of you who felt like crap afterwards!!  I'll let y'all know what we end up doing.

Ha! It was horrible! But all is good now! I'm not sure why I had such a rough go with it. I'm not usually one to have issues but honestly I think I might have had a reaction with the anesthesia coupled with already tender and swollen ovaries, it just made it worse. Hopefully yours goes a million times better than mine! Good luck!

My 1st ER there was only bloating, not a lot of pain, just uncomfortable and SUPER tired. However, after a nap I was fine and went out grocery shopping.

 

My 2nd ER (last Friday) was totally different. I cried if I stood up straight so if I needed to get off the couch I was like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. My parents had to come over since DH had to go to work so someone would let the dog out and make me dinner     I honestly didn't feel 100% better until the day AFTER my ET!!!!   Yikes....which I would have never guessed since they got 8 less eggs this time. Whatevs IF, you stink.

Hope it goes ok for you, everyone reacts a little different!

For my 1st and 3rd, I was crampy and sleepy but generally ok. For my second, there was a lot more discomfort (I was probably borderline OHSS.) I think it's great to just play it by ear. The other thing to remember is that you'll definitely be sleepy from the anesthesia.

My wife was not all that pleasant to be around during the first 24 hours or so. During that time, while trying to keep her happy and myself out of trouble, I did some reading, and it looks like many woman are in discomfort for anywhere between a few hours and a couple of days. So you may be fine for your thanks giving, but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

I felt totally fine.  Went out to lunch with my husband and went back to work in the morning(and I have a very physical job) I think it must depend on the person.
