Question on positive for CMV and IUI treatment delay...(warning long post)

Evening everyone!

I was wondering if you ladies would be able to help me. DH and I went on tuesday to our RE and had our consult and a battery of tests done. In our consultation our RE said she was wanting to start right away on an fertility treatment and we have been super excited since. We are doing IUI due to using donor sperm. DH has low count, motility, and a lot of other issues. We have been using a different clinic and recently changed due to DH's problems and our insurance covers more of the testing and so forth with this clinic.

Well today I got a call back from the nurse saying that all my bloodwork came back and my hormone levels are great but my blood work did come back with a positive for CMV. She said monday I need to go in to do a urine test to see if it's from the past or if it's a current infection. I asked if it would delay our insemination since I remember the RE was talking about it in the consult saying it could delay us another 4 weeks and she asked if we had a date set yet for the insemination. I said no because we don't have a date set up. She didn't answer my question. We are wanting to do this in december and I don't want to waste time obviously and I don't want to worry about this all weekend thinking we are waiting another cycle before we start.

The RE just put me on provera to induce my period and once I get that I'm supposed to call and set up an appointment for an HSG test as well. So I'm wondering when will the insemination occur. The RE was hoping they could do one in December but if my urine test comes back positive I know it will be delayed. If it comes back negative will it still be delayed or will we be right on track to do an insemination in december?

Sorry for all the questions...I'm a bit confused as well how all this works and our plan. So really there are quite a few questions in this post.

So initial blood work is done. Started provera on Nov 13th. The next step is to get my period and call to set up an appointment for HSG test and then I'm unsure of what happens next.

I thought the HSG test was to be done when your period ends. Well she wants me to do clomid and then we are having a monitored cycle with a trigger shot before insemination. So am I looking at a January insemination when my next cycle starts?

 Any answers are appreciated!

Re: Question on positive for CMV and IUI treatment delay...(warning long post)

  • Hi!

My HSG was on day 3 or 4 I think... But for CMV, my clinic said no big deal as 80% of people carry it. I happened to be negative which meant I had to select a negative sperm donor. If you're positive, then it doesn't matter. My clinic said its basically dormant and harmless, however you just don't want to contract it during early pregnancy as there can be impact to the fetus. In any case, I am not sure why the slow down as for me, it simply was to determine if I needed a negative donor or not. If you're on a hardcore timeline, I'd read up a little and ask more questions....like "what if we don't do all this extra stuff?" good luck!!!
