Illness and IVF

This is probably a stupid question but I'm a little worried so I'm going to ask.  My husband and I have been sick with this awful cough for the last week.  No fever or anything just a cold/cough.  Is this going to affect anything with our cycle?  I start my meds next week so I'm thinking (hoping) I will be better by then.  However, what about sperm quality?  My husband has not had issues in the past but i know it can change depending on things....I've always just heard fever but I don't know...

Thanks for listening and again, sorry if this question is ridiculous.  ;)

Re: Illness and IVF

  • In the middle of our cycle my husband and I were deathly ill, while I was stimming. I called the RE before we went to the doctor to ask this question and if we can take any medication, he said it was no issue. Hope you feel better soon. GL!

  • Today's sperm were created 72 days ago, so being sick this week won't make a difference.

  • I had a wicked cold while stimming and asked my nurse and doctor, and neither were worried. They wouldn't let me take any meds except for sudafed and tylenol, though, which sucked.

  • Resting is good for IVF and your illness, so no problem there. Coughing won't push the embryos out either. Feel better and good luck!

  • I was super sick when we were going through IVF, in fact I got a really bad cold after the transfer. I work with students all day since I'm a teacher and germs are pretty much a part of the territory. I was completely freaking out but the nurse said to treat my body like I was pregnant and take meds that pregnant women can take. I think you should be fine. Good luck! It's not a silly question..when I was going through my first round of IVF I was freaked out and paranoid about everything.
