I met with a LC today to help with my oversupply issues and my really really fussy/gassy DS. She was awesome! She confirmed that DS is eating enough and she confirmed he has gas. Poor little guy - he was pulling up his legs, wincing and spreading his cute little toes as he cried =(
So, she reinforced block feeding (every 4 hours I have to switch breasts) and asked that I cut a lot of foods out of my diet. Though she doesn't think it's from food, she feels this approach will be best for him. She thinks he'll get better every day, and in about 5-7 days he will be better. I'm also going to try gas drops and a new way to hold DS after he eats to help his belly.
I really really hope this works, my poor DS cries so much from gas. Last night he was crying so much that I was crying. It was awful.
I also brought DS to his pediatrician yesterday, he is gaining a ton of weight (12 oz in 12 days!) - she thinks he has reflux & colic. I am not sure if I'm being unreasonable, but I trust the LC more than the doc. LC seem to know a lot more about breastfeeding than doctors do. Though I'm still worried he has reflux......
Fingers crossed ladies
Re: Love my new lactation consultant
GL! My DS had horrible gas and then was finally dx with reflux. I noticed a big difference when I cut onions, peppers and really spicy foods out of my diet. I was just on a bland diet for quite awhile. When the dr finally put my DS on meds for the reflux he was an ENTIRELY different baby and started to sleep for more than 2 hours.
DS lived on the gas drops for the first few months of his life. They really helped!
