Tips on cutting baby's nails

My babe always has claws like the devil himself. They HURT. I can't cut them. I try, he wiggles, and I miss, and we both feel bad.

I've tried putting him in front of the t.v, clipping them while he's nursing, clipping while he's sleeping, nothing works.

Please help us!

I have long hair and my LO likes to pull it, which I never let him unless I am cutting his nails. For some reason it keeps him nice and distracted.

It takes me FOREVER to do their nails.  I have to wait until they're tired, but not too tired.  Then I have to turn on some sort of TV show that has singing/music.  Sometimes that will distract them enough, but sometimes they still fidget and I'll say "Just let me cut this ONE NAIL - ready?  One, two, three!" and I'll get one clip in.  Rinse and repeat 8000 times until both of their nails are all cut.

With their toe nails I pin them down on the changing table, give them something to play with that I don't normally allow, and try to get it done as quickly as possible.

My favorite way of cutting their nails, though, is waiting until a day when my mom watches them (Mondays and Fridays), tell her I didn't do it yet, and when I get home from work they're done

I usually sit Paul on my lap looking out, that way I have both hands to hold on to the one I am clipping. It's still a struggle, but a little easier that way. One time we went outside and I clipped them on the deck because he loves to look around at everything outside, and he wouldn't sit still otherwise.

I go all girly saying "it's mani/pedi time!" and pretend like we're getting our nails done (but I'm thinking you won't want to do that haha!)

I lay her on the changing table and hang on for dear life! Even if she fights me, I just squeeze her foot or hand harder so it stays still, and do my best to push the finger/toe pad back so I don't get skin. She doesn't fight so much though - so I think turning it into something "fun" worked for her. Even though I don't see how its that fun...

Maybe cut your nails in front of him and show him that you like it - so he should too?

Usually I do it right before bath time.  I sit on the side of the tub and start the water and sit her on my lap facing out and she is usually so intrigued by the running water and what I am doing that she lets me cut them.  She usually stays still and only gives me trouble for the last two nails.  I do her toes at another time usually I lie her on my bed behind me and take one foot under my arm and move quickly.

I have to clip C's while he's sleeping.

I do it on the changing table, and sing to him while I'm doing it. The singing usually distracts him enough that I can cut them as long as I move fast.

Nail file.  They don't have to be as still and you don't have to worry about cutting them accidentally.  It goes pretty quick cause their nails are so little.

I cut them while she's laying on her changing table. I have to sing crazy songs and makes faces to her to distract her. It's definitely a chore we both dislike. It seems like those things grow SO fast too.

I sit A on my lap, facing away from me and sing softly in his ear. That seems to work very well.
