Hampton Roads Mamas....DC req....

Looking for daycare reqs in the Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk area. Would like to stay in Chesapeake, but options seem limited for infants. Or if anyone knows of good websites with reviews that would be helpful as well.

  • No personal experience, but ODU's daycare has a wonderful reputation.  It is staffed by people with Master's degrees and students getting their Master's degrees in early childhood education.  I have heard nothing but good things.

My friend who lived in Chesapeake had their daughter at The Goddard School and was happy.

I have also had several friends with their kids at Kindercare Centers.  Most recently, my friend had her daughter at the Kempsville location and was VERY happy.  I have also known people who have had their kids at the location off of Diamond Springs.

Good luck finding something you like!

  • Thanks for the reqs! I'll be closer to Portsmouth, so the Great Falls (I think that is what the area is called) is way out of the way which is where Goddard and Primrose are located. There is a Kindercare in the area that I spoke with though. There are actually not many options for infant care in this area of Chesapeake, or at least what i have come across so far and I am concerned about finding a DC that is okay with CD. Goddard is, Kindercare may be ok with dr's note on a case by case basis. La Petite wasn't very willing it seems due to 'health code' issues. Umm, I think health code issues are the same in the state or at least by county so if one is able, then its not against health code.....But that is a completely different topic.

  • I have a friend whose daughter goes to KinderCare in Chesapeake.  They have been pretty happy with it.  I believe its in the Greenbrier area, but am not positive.

I've always heard good things about Goddard.  A friend's son briefly went to the one in Williamsburg and they had no complaints.

  • We liked First Presbyterian Church preschool in Norfolk. We loved it there even though we weren't affiliated with the church. They also take infants but I can't speak much on it since mine started when they were 2.
