And it helps to do it here because I want to up my post count.
For Thanksgiving this year H and I and H's parents are heading down to Clearwater, FL to spend the holidays with his brother. I'm excited and happy because it will be nice weather, nice to see his family, and well, nice weather...plus we haven't visited his brother yet, so I feel a trip is in order anyway. And this kills 2 birds with 1 stone and ultimately saves us money.
But all of a sudden there is all this crazy talk going on about NO TURKEY OR STUFFING OR MASHED POTATOES OR CRANBERRY SAUCE on Thanksgiving. MIL is worried that Florida DOESN'T CARRY this stuff and we might just nix the whole Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe just go out to dinner or have Italian food.
I'm just...I....do.not.comprehend.
Plus I'm pretty sure that Florida celebrates Thanksgiving like the rest of 'Murrrica.
H is confused as well.
I even said that I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY TO COOK if they don't want to.
Plus, we all get in on Wednesday and would have plenty of time to grocery shop (cause I don't think his brother would want to do all the shopping).
Re: I'm not really complaining, I'm just venting...
Oh hell no. This is like the time my mom put out a pagan bush for christmas, that was the first year my brother and I went and bought a tree ourselves. Fvckings pagan bush.
If you're offering to cook and shop then they really have no reason for not doing a Thanksgiving dinner.
Word on the street is that ALL of the states of America celebrate Thanksgiving!!!
I would be pissed off too if the T-day goods were replaced with Italian food.
She did talk about bringing down some of the items in her SUITCASE.
Cause that makes complete sense.
I'm not sure where all this is coming from and I think it's because she doesn't want to cook. But I am more than happy to cook. I'm actually pretty good at it.
Andplusalso, FIL has Parkinson's and it's pretty severe. Going out is really hard for him right now. So I'm not sure why we are even thinking about that.
I was so looking forward to this trip and now I'm just getting aggravated.
Whaaaaaaaaa??????
You cook! How could you do Thanksgiving without the thanksgiving meal?
And FTR, she is mostly a sane individual. This just came out of left field.
I neeeeeeeeeed some turkey in my lyfe.
Good point. Maybe I can get his brother to pick one up for us. Most of the other stuff we should be able to get the day before.
I LOVE turkey and Thanksgiving dinner. Just love it.
That's the thing...I have NO idea what's happening here.
First, H said that she was thinking about bringing food down in her suitcase.
Then they started talking about which restaurant we could go to or other foods we could make.
I was just sitting there all...
Tell her that you can order a Turkey or Turducken on the interwebz and have it shipped or delivered to where you will be in Florida.
LOL! I wish I was sitting there with you to see it all unfold. I'm cracking up right now.
Thank you all for telling me that I'm not the crazy one in this situation.
I'm going to tell H to talk to them and let them know that we will cook for sure.
OH! I forgot to tell you the other malarky from MIL. She said that we should celebrate Thanksgiving on Friday, even though we all get down there on Wednesday. I think H nixed that right away.
Like I said, this is really the first time I've ever just been all "WTAF?" about her. She is normally very reasonable.
She has womens intuition that you are thinking about babies. Grandmas are crazy. I hope this is it and not just the beginning.
LOL. Duh, of course we don't have Thanksgiving food here. We are going to go out and catch our T-day fish on Thursday morning and probably have it with Cuban-style rice and maybe some Key Lime Pie. There are no frozen turkeys or apple pies in Florida.
Actually I live about 15 min from Clearwater. In addition to Publix (the only grocery store here worth going to), there is a Fresh Market on US19 and two Whole Foods in Tampa, about 20 min. away. Oh, and Costco is in Clearwater and they have very good pumpkin pies if you don't have time/desire to bake. And there is an Italian market in St. Pete called Mazzaro's that has a great bakery and has all kinds of pies and bread and wine and cheese and awesomeness. I recommend going there just for the heck of it. But yeah, there is no shortage of delicious Thanksgivingness in this area.
I just casually mentioned to H that we should order the food from the local grocery store and have his brother pick it up for us.
His answer to me was "Ya, my mom is thinking about what days she wants to do, and we'll plan from there"
I guess we are back to possibly celebrating Thanksgiving on Friday.
Hold me.
IS THIS REAL LYFE?!!
Is everyone going crazy around you?
I would suggest you two coordinate with H's brother, whether it's a homemade meal or bought at a restaurant/grocery store. Either you or DH (or maybe his brother) could tell MIL that you don't want her to stress over anything, that everything will be taken care of for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday and she should just come and enjoy herself.
This eliminates the option for craziness.
Exactly. Where did the craziness come from?
Normal was thrown out the window and the crazy took over.
So I don't know if I'm going to win this battle.
They are talking about doing a....wait for it...Ham.
WTAF.
I'll just make a turkey for myself this weekend. Grrrr.
LOL If it helps, Wino, last year we were in Hawaii in a hotel room and we managed to cook a thanksgiving meal! We had turkey breast, candied yams, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy.
I haven't read the red of the thread yet, so I apologize if the thread has taken one of those weird turns lol.
I am so confused, no turkey in FL, ham substitution, lets do Thanksgiving Friday, cranberry sauce in suitcases.
Are you being set up?
I'm being Punk'd.
It's really the only thing that makes sense.
This has a whole creepy vibe to it now, hopefully you're being Punk'd and this whole thing doesn't end up involving clowns. Or tofurkey.
