I just had an interesting thought re: Christmas bdays

Why is it so cute to have a pumpkin patch birthday party with halloween dress up, but having anything remotely Christmasy for a Christmas/December birthday is a big no no or not as cute?  Is it that Christmas time is so hectic with activities and holiday decorations and such that it is just one more thing that is Christmas/Holiday when it need not be?  Is it just so over done?

Just wondering.

  • I don't think it is a no-no actually.  I think people just want to distiguish between birthday and Christmas and it is easier to do that if the birthday "theme" is not Christmas related.  I don't like Halloween related themes for October birthdays, or Valentine's related themes for February birthdays, etc...either.  I guess they just aren't my style...but I've never had to personally deal with a birthday near or on a holiday either.

  • I think its because Christmas is such a HUGE holiday that most people celebrate with their families...where as Halloween is only celebrated by those who have kids with their kids....no big family get togethers are planned just for Halloween.

  • I think because it's such a huge holiday for everyone.  And, having a 12/31 baby myself, I want to distinguish between having a holiday party and a birthday party for my daughter.
  • Because you want it to be special and separate from Christmas.
  • my thing is that people have said things about combining christmas and birthday.  People probably split birthdays/christmas so their kids don't think they're getting jipped.  You don't get presents at Halloween.
  • ditto the reasons others have already given. ?But I've never seen a Halloween themed birthday party, and it's not something I'd ever do. Seems kind of odd to me.

  • I think it's b/c you get presents for both and so many people born close to Christmas wind up getting 1 gift instead of 2 separate gifts so having a Christmas theme makes people think to combine them.  On a different note, my Godson is a Christmas Eve baby and for his 2nd birthday favors were "The Night Before Christmas" books.

  • I dont think it is a no-no either.  But with DS we want to make a distinction between his bday on the 18th and Christmas.  We really dotn ever want to make him feel like his bday isnt special of when it is.
