I had a very good experience there. The L&D wing is recently renovated (not as nice as what I've heard about Mercy's new wing, but still pretty nice) and I LOVED every single nurse I had during L&D - wide range of ages and they were all very very good. I had some issues with my epidural (and honestly I can't recall now the order in which it happened. I think the medication wasnt being effective so I was thrashing a bit and as I thrashed the needle was coming out, so then it was even less effective, etc) - end result was I had to get the epidural put in again when I was 9 CM and contracting every minute. No worries though bc I stayed at 9 cm for like 5 hours! lol. (i had a long labor.)
Recovery was okay. I mean it was fine, but a lot of the issues were my own because I didnt speak up as much. Like I didnt realize they had gel pads for my boobs after nursing until two days in recovery when a nurse was like "umm dont you have these?" So I'm kind of annoyed someone didnt just say "oh your nipples are bleeding, let me help." But next time, I'm asking for all that *** lol.
But really my two biggest issues during recovery were the nurse I had the first night (so I had a c-section at 5 pm, and was in recovery by 8ish, still obviously drugged up, on antibiotics bc I had a fever, etc etc). My AC wasnt working in my room and she said "well I guess you'll be warm then." Ummm wrong response (my nurse the next night fixed it.) At 6 am she said "okay lets go to the bathroom" and made me walk to the bathroom without helping me. I had had an epidural for almost 24 hours (from 7 pm until 5 pm the day before), I had had a c-section, and hadnt walked in 36 hours, etc etc. I was like, I can't even get out of bed, and she was like come on, lets go (not helping me out of bed or anything). SOOOO that was a huge issue and I was terrified the rest of my recovery would be horrendous. But she was the only bad nurse I saw the entire time and I didnt see her again after that incident so I kind of write that off.
The other issue is that St Agnes is a teaching hospital, so they asked me about having student nurses and I said yes, but in retrospect I should have said no (I'm the daughter of a nurse though, couldnt say no!) But it meant that sometimes I had 5 or 6 people in my room or more - my nurse, the nursing assistant, the nursing instructor, the student nurse, and a LC, and heaven forbid that was when someone from the nursery came up. So I wish I had said no to that bc it made teh whole process a lot more stressful than I think it would have been otherwise. It was fine in that everyone was nice and so on, but it was an added stressor I should have avoided.
Besides those two things (which sound like really major things but they really weren't in retrospect) - I had a really positive experience. I met with LCs several times, I loved the nurses in the nursery, they are a very nursing-friendly hospital but also will FF with no questions or guilt etc, and all of my nurses (with that one exception) were really very good. I also flipping adored my anesthesiologists (I had three of them! lol).
so I would definitely deliver there again in a heartbeat! Sorry that was so long :-)
No one helped you out of bed after your c section???? How is that even possible? You poor thing!! I had someone helping me and I still cried the entire time!! More so out of fear than anything though it did hurt.
bumping from my phone. please pardon any typos and missing punctuation
I'm sorry you had the one crappy nurse PP, you're not in the best emotional state to deal with anything other than nice, understanding and helpful people! One of my nursery nurses was all weird with me when I called her to come pick up DS and take him to the nursery for a couple hours. She made me feel guilty but seriously, the nursery is there for a reason and I hadn't slept in like 2 days.

I spilled some water on the floor one night (at 10 pm) and everyone was totally like - oh. .. well, housekeeping can mop it in the morning. . ..I'm still peeved that I had to clean that up myself one day after a c-section.
if I have another baby, I'm going to a birthing center and getting the F out of there as soon as possible.

Yeah I was so peeved!!! Every other nurse was really good - very helpful, etc etc - but that one nurse......it wasnt until later that I was like, um, that was effed up!
oh also let me add. the food was bad. Like just typical hospital food. BUT they had a pretty good cafeteria (but you had to pay) so I sent H down there a lot for food lol.
