I'm not talking a big ol' bow or anything but I can't get any kind of clip to stay in O's hair for the life of me. She must sense that she is just not a bow girl.
Lucia's hair is still too thin. I can get one to stay in for a picture (like in my siggy), but then it slides right out. Maybe in a couple more months!
Do they fall out or does she pull them out? We use the plastic goody's brand hair clips. The old style, they are hard to find in the stores. I don't think they make them anymore. I just have some left over from my older DD. My LO has not noticed them yet. It would hurt if she pulled them out. They stay in pretty good.
Lauren won't keep bows in her hair, she pulls them out. But her hair is wild and long so we either do pigtails or just a little clip to keep it out of her eyes/mouth.

Do you use ponytails too? I put A's hair in a little pony, using those little tiny elastic ponytail holders, then put the bow over the pony. This works great for us!

My friend who's a hairdresser mentioned baby hair clips that have velcro but I've never seen anything like that. What stays best in their hair are tiny claw clips, but they can yank those out very easily and I'm worried that they could be a choking hazard. Their hair is very, very thick and fine but not very long. It looks like they just have a mop on their heads and we can't really do anything with it.

Until this weekend, I was with you. But we bought a few clips that are just bows attached to these things:
And they stay in a lot better (not perfectly, mind you, but much much better than the other ones we have). DH found them, and they DO say 3 years+ on the age thing.... but they're huge. She's not going to swallow them.
I just started putting clips in Audrey's hair this week. I've noticed it depends on the type of clip, as to whether they stay. I'm having good luck with the ones I got form BuyBuy Baby.
Not a whole lot of help here, pretty much anything stays in Ava's long, thick hair. But i usually stuck to headbands, elastic, and the clips with bows like klemck posted.

Hi! Just stumbled across this discussion... For those looking for a clip that stays in Have u seen our mini latch clip? They hang onto arm hairs they work so well! Plus u can get them in small bows or big bows. If u haven't its at babywisp.com for u to check out. Another thing I read in this string is that some clips are safer than others. That clip image shows a 30 or 40 mm clip which is still considered a choking hazard by product safety guidelines. All hair accessories are choking hazards if they are small enough to fit into a toilet paper holder roll. That's CPSIA and health Canada's rule of thumb. ANYTHING that size should never be left alone with baby especially naps and car rides. That even means little cardigans with buttons and stuff like that have a potential to come loose if u want to get technical.
1 more thing to consider is the lead, cadmium and mercury content of clips and how minuscule amounts if Injested can cause permanent harm to your child. Look for clips that are exceeding standards in this with testing from accredited labs...as let's say ur child ever did swallow a clip and it was from the dollar store or something u have to worry about lead mercury poisoning and transference of the toxins just by them touching it then putting to their mouth. And the glues used are they toxic? Baby wisp tests the paints, metal of clip, metal of rivets, and paint of the logo even and sews on embellishments/use non toxic glues...why ? ...bc my daughter, nieces and friends kids wears these and i can sleep at night knowing I will never be responsible for that kind of toxic harm to a child...
Sorry if this came out as a lecture or sales pitch! : I have done so so so much research in this area and am passionate about it and hope it helped, that's all. :.
