Sickness...NOT vax related

So, DS has been sick all weekend...my poor little guy had to have breathing treatments all weekend. I took Friday off, and DH is off today. I really want to be home with him; I know DH is fine doing everything from monitoring his temp to giving him the treatment, but I want to be the one with my poor baby. DH works for the government, so he was already off today, and it would be silly of me to use another day when he is perfectly capable of taking care of DS.

On another note, DH is legit catching what DS has. I am fine, but I don't think they cleaned out our air ducts at work before they turned on the heat. I was absolutely fine this morning until the heat came on. Since then, I've been itchy in my throat, ears, and nose, and I've been sneezing CONSTANTLY!!! It's obnoxious!

I'm done. I just wanted to update bc I've been MIA from the board this weekend.

  • I'm so sorry, that must be so scary having to give him breathing treatments.  The girls have been sick and H is home with the girls today but I wish I could be home with them.  I hate winter.

  • I am so sorry, hope he feels better really soon.  Our whole family just got over some sort of bug this past week and it was really hard having us all be sick.

  • She was pretty much fever free by yesterday but this morning woke up with a rash.  It's a pretty light rash and just on her face, neck, and chest, but it's disheartening to see yet another symptom.  Then H changed Olivia while I was home for lunch and her rash looks worse again :(  I just want them to be better!

  • I'm sorry so many of our Feb babies are sick!  Winter is so frustrating.  I feel like Lucia's been sick for a month, and every time she starts to improve, something else starts up.  She was almost over her cold, and now another one has started up.  She threw up on Friday night, then was pretty good over the weekend.  She had a stuffy nose, and slept a lot more than normal, but she ate and drank and was happy.  Then this morning she threw up again twice.  I'm so ready for her to feel better!

  • Molly, that's exactly what I mean, it just seems like once there's hope that everything is clearing up something else happens.  So frustrating!  But at least they're healthy, even if they keep getting these dumb little things.  I know it could be much, much worse.

  • And winter has to end some time! I'm looking forward to spring :)    Jen, our girls seem to lead such parallel lives!

  • I know, it's crazy!  They would be BFFs :)

How is Lucia doing with solids?  Our DCP said they want to eat everything in sight.  She said her son was eating Captain Crunch and they were practically assaulting him trying to get some.  I said "I know, Natalia found one and hid it in her clothes for later, I found it when I undressed her".  When we took each of them this past week for the rash and fever they had each gained over a pound in 2 weeks!  Natalia went from 16lbs 8.5oz to 17lbs 12 oz!  These two LOVE solids.

Lucia's the same way.  She'll eat anything!  She especially loves it when her dad holds his whole thing (taco, sandwich, whatever) so she can try and bite a piece off.  He'll put a small piece near the edge so she can actually get something off, and she thinks it's fabulous.  We cannot wait to be done with formula!  I think my doc (a family physician, not a ped) thinks we are a little nuts for letting her try everything, but has no reason for us to not do it.  She especially loves Indian food, or Mexican food or anything with strong flavors.  I can't wait to see how much she's grown at her 9 month appointment!

  • Ironically the girls have had no Indian food.  My MIL sent me home with something for H so maybe we'll heat some up and pick it apart and let them at it.  They loved lemons so I'm thinking strong flavors won't be a problem.

And one more month for formula!  Our pediatrician said we can start making the transition at 11 months.  I'm thinking I might not have to buy anymore ever again!

  • My problem is she still isn't interested in drinking anything.  Even from the sippy cup or regular cup we can get only about 1 oz into her at a time(formula, water, juice for constipation, pedialyte).  I'm worried she'd get completely dehydrated if we got rid of bottles now.  I'm hoping she gets better at a sippy cup over the next month or 2!

  • Do you use a straw cup?  If we hold it the girls will drink out of a regular sippy cup but they do well with the straw cups on their own.  However, they will only drink water out of them, not formula.  They also do best out of these cheap straw cups that my parents got for $1 each from the flea market and those leak a lot.

I think when we introduce milk we're only going to offer it in a sippy cup.  H and I drink skim milk, I wonder if instead of water we can offer them skim milk in a sippy cup now?  I know we'll use whole milk when they switch, but at least it will help get them used to a different taste in the cup.

  • And K3, sorry for hijacking your post!

  • Yes, sorry K3!

Jen, we've only bought regular sippy cups and  small regular plastic drinking cups.  But she has tried straw cups because the girls I work with use those.  I HATE the straw cups, probably because the girls have bitten all the straws off the cups, so there are tons of broken ones, or half usable ones, and they keep having to buy new ones.  They drive me nuts.  But at some point I might have to break down and buy one.  She just chews on them, she can't get anything out so we'd try that one that you push the water up the straw.
