Ok, so I talked to Alex's teachers today and I have decided to go full throttle PT in the new year. I am going to use the time in between now and then to get him excited, ready, etc. My plan is to have Santa bring him some big boy panties and try them out that next week.
He always tells me when he wants to be changed and lately he has started standing up in the tub and saying "Pee pee coming!" and then, well, the pee pee comes. He can totally control it. He hasn't gone on the potty yet but he's been sitting on the toilet before bath and just getting the feel for it.
So, for the good advice- the teachers told me that a potty chair is kind of pointless in their opinion- that a kid just needs to be re-trained on the toilet when that time comes (they use real, mini-toilets at school. They have a double child's bathroom with half doors to allow privacy from the other students but also to allow an adult to see the potty-goer. It's a pretty cool set up. They also will not PT in Pull Ups- it's all or nothing, panties or diaps... I'm all for that since I'm an all or nothing kind of gal!). She told me to sit Alex on the toilet FACING BACKWARDS to use the potty in the beginning. She said it is much easier.
Ok, so I thought it was weird and I didn't really get it until I tried it tonight. UTTER GENIOUS. It's like straddling a chair backwards. He has something to hold onto (the back of the toilet), his little penis points exactly down into the water (facing forward he had to hold it down) and I can WAY manage him better because he is balanced and stable.
She also said for "aiming" practice to put some cheerios in the water. HA! I thought that was cute.
Anyway, just wanted to share because I had never heard that tip and I think it's amazing. She said transitioning from backward facing to forward facing is much easier than transfering from potty chair to toilet.
So, I'm all about the potty talk from now til Xmas! WHOO HOO!

Re: I got an awesome potty training tip today
YAY!! Faith has been telling me all day "I have to go potty" instead of "I'm GOING potty". It's very exciting!
one word on the big boy pants... Faith will sit in wet pants all day if I let her (I don't). But our Pedi said that the wetness would be uncomfortable for her. It's not.
So, you really have to be proactive about asking if they need to sit on the potty or just taking them every hour.
GL!!
That's a great tip. It's one of those things I had heard before but for whatever reason, I just forgot about. And for what its worth - Ryan hates his potty chair. He likes sitting on the toilet. We use his potty chair for a stool (it has a lid)
Oooooooh Amy... everyone in my world wears panties. Panties for everyone! Yep, my dad, DH, brother, etc all disagreee but I'm sorry, panties is what they are.
Katie- NO pull ups, NO diapers for PT kiddos, even during naps. Hence the requirement for 5 changes of clothes for PTers!! But, they get trained quick, from what I hear!!
I tried her training pants at naptime today and she didn't leak through
I am too chicken to try it at night.
