Gift suggestions for age 10 to 14 yr old boys?

This is for a charity type thing my church is doing. It's where you fit toys in a shoe box or plastic bin and they get shipped to the children. They said rarely does anyone buy for the 10 to 14 yr old boy range though :( So I want to buy for them but I have no idea what boys that age want/need.

Any ideas (remember, has to fit in a shoe box/plastic bin)?

  • Legos?  They seem to be popular among a variety of ages.  Unfortunately they are expensive :(

I'd say video games but they might not have the console.

     Harry Potter books?

Football, sports type things?  Are boys that age still into nerf guns etc?

  • Action figures, comics, DVDs.
  • Loading the player...
  • DVDs, iTunes card maybe?, card games, travel games, art supplies, books, baseball, puzzle books (crosswords, word searches, Sudoku).

I don't know how much you want to spend or where the gifts are going if this is even feasible but maybe an iPod (one of the cheaper ones - not sure what they are - or a secondhand one).

If it's for Operation Christmas Child I wouldn't include anything that requires electronics.  It's my understanding that the boxes go to areas where kids don't typically have access to dvd players or computers or the like.

School supplies, hygiene items, paperback books.  Maybe browse the sporting goods section for small items like baseballs or something?

agreed. You also cant put anything resembling weapons either, and I think someone said no playing cards either. What about marbles? Anything to write with and on, a string bag ( like a shopping bag backpack style), socks, underwear, candy, a tshirt. We do on every year, you'd be amazed how much you can fit in a box. I also hide a dollar in the sock too, in case they can use it to get food or a treat of some kind.

Yes, it is Operation Christmas Child. : So yeah, I think will go with these suggestions. I know they need necessities more than anything but I did want to put in something fun. I like the dollar idea. Thanks ladies.
