I''ve always been a big fan of Thanksgiving. But ever since I've been with my husband, we've done Thanksgiving with his family... they do things veeeeery differently than my family, and, while I am always a good sport and enjoy my time with them, I've missed Thanksgiving "my" way for the past 6 years.
But! This year, we are hosting, and I am ridiculously excited! I'm having so much fun planning my menu, my place settings, etc. So... it got me wondering...

- We are still celebrating with my husband's family - his mom, dad, sister, and two close family friends to be exact!
What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish? What are you contributing to this year's meal?
- It's a tossup between my Hatch Chile Mac-n-Cheese and my grandmother's dressing recipe. I am making both of those sides, cranberry sauce, squash casserole, and pumpkin pie. I'm considering adding a brussels sprouts au gratin to the line-up. I am wussing out on the Turkey though... ordered it from Whole Foods!
What is your dressing made of... Cornbread? Oyster? White Bread? Chestnut?
- Cornbread all the way. I tried a new cornbread + sausage recipe last year and it was a big failure.
Pumpkin or Pecan Pie?
- Both... but if I had to pick one, pumpkin - with fresh whipped cream!
Do you have any special Thanksgiving traditions?
- We watch the Macy's Day parade while we finish cooking and usually watch Christmas Vacation as we snack on leftovers that night. We also usually go pick out our Christmas tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
And, most importantly... Football? Or the National Dog Show?
- Both... but nobody better touch the channel when the terrier group comes on!

Usually we travel to both our families, but with Skyler I don't think that will be an option since both places are an hour away from home and 35 minutes the opposite way from each other. Since we plan on hosting Christmas at our new house we will probably just flip a coin for where we are going.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish? What are you contributing to this year's meal?
I love stuffing and cranberry sauce! I will probably make the turkey, I have made it for the past four years or so.

Cornbread. But my favorite type is seafood stuffing. I'm so happy that we live so close to the gulf!!

Neither. I don't really like pie.

Who are you celebrating with this year? Anyone else hosting? We will celebrate twice on T-day. My side at lunchish time, DH's at dinner. Should be a nice, long day...(it has always been different in the past, so this is a first.)
What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish? What are you contributing to this year's meal? Mashed potatoes are my all time favorite food. I am making corn casserole for my fam, and pies for DH's-a pumpkin and a pecan from scratch.

It usually changes each year. This year we are probably just having the three of us (and maybe MIL) here.

We will have lunch with my family at my grandma's. Then dinner with DH's family, which will be at our house.

Dumplings. For my family, I bring the mashed potatoes. For DH's family, we will do all of it.

Watching the Macy's parade. And every year my dad sets up a target shoot in the morning.

We will be at my parents house for Thanksgiving but we will have our own Thanksgiving brunch, just the 4 of us.

Sweet Potatoes and Mac-n-cheese... I usually contribute time and a store bought dessert, this year I am not sure.

Not really but we will be starting some this year. Everyday this month DD will give away a toy and throw away a toy. We will also be doing a "Turkey Trot" 5k every Thanksgiving morning and having our own Thanksgiving brunch. We also end our Thanksgiving night by putting up our Christmas tree.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish? What are you contributing to this year's meal?
Mom and I cook everything except for dessert, which is supplied by my MIL. My favorite thing to make is rice stuffing (I eat gluten free, so no breadcrumb stuffing for me). It has dried fruit, roasted chestnuts, and fresh herbs. It's amazing. We also have a turkey with apples, mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, and occasionally other things.

As stated above- rice, because I can't eat bread. Before that, it was white bread. It has chestnuts in it, too.

Dog show until FIL arrives, then we usually have to switch to football. The major TV argument in our house is that I LOVE the Macy's parade, and the hubby hates it.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish? What are you contributing to this year's meal? I dont eat turkey but i love the sides! especially this baked rice and broccili and cheese casserole, yuuummy!! i always make a delicious bread pudding type dish made with cream cheese!

Do you have any special Thanksgiving traditions? we always always always pray together as a big family, my mom has 5 siblings and they and their families all come over to my parents and we make it a point to all hold hands and pray. i love that part cause last year my grandpa "held" elijahs hand through prayer, he kept his hand on my tummy the whole time!

....our house is too small to host, and honestly I refuse to have hubs family ruin my family's holiday. We'll go to MILs at noon, and my Mom's at 4. We plan to bring Aria home for a nap around 2, since there's no way she'll nap in a crowd. She's way too busy for that.

.....Ummm... All of it! Probably the white meat and rolls.

.....I'm not. The inlaws are afraid I'll poison them, and my Mom wants me to be able to enjoy Aria's first Thanksgiving without needing to worry about anything.

..... I get up on Thanksgiving morning and head to my Moms for the parade. I've always watched it with her and my sister while we start cooking, and I'm excited to bring Aria along. Hubs likes that he gets to stay home and play his video game uninterrupted and guilt free. Then later we usually all end up "watching" a movie after dinner at my moms. Generally it's Jim Carrey's version of The Grinch. The evening before Thanksgiving, we have a soup and sandwich meal at my mom's BFFs house with all of we family. [we call each other family... Might as well be!]

Who are you celebrating with this year? Anyone else hosting? we usually run around crazy on holidays, we go to DH's familys houses, his brothers house then his grandmas house, go to my mom's house and then have a after Thanksgiving celebration at our house that night with friends.

I usually make snacks for our after Thanksgiving party but we have a strictly no Thanksgiving style food rule..so it is usually chips and salsa

Do you have any special Thanksgiving traditions? after thanksgiving party I mentioned, we use to call it celebrating that we survived Thanksgiving with our crazy families, with drinks and games and decorating the tree....it has been altered a bit since our friends and us started having kids to more family friendly.
And, most importantly... Football? Or the National Dog Show? IL's are obsessed with football...it is usually on everywhere we go but I dont watch it
We are celebrating at my IL's - as usual since about 2005. We try to invite my parents and brothers every other year or so. Because they have a hard time with me never coming for thanksgiving (my dad's bday is usually the day before or after - this year after) so I do usually see them AROUND thanksgiving.
I can't wait til WE can host it. We actually chose some of our serving dishes from our wedding registry thinking for when we host it. Probably in a few years.

I love cranberries. 2nd choice is my FIL's stuffing. I'm going to try to bring sweet potato casserole this year. We never have them and Hayley likes sweet potatoes so why not?

I am celebrating with my husbands family. His sister is flying in and my sister and her boyfriend will also be coming along with DH's uncle. I am hosting as usual.

My homeade stuffing is my favorite!!!! Geez.. I am pretty much cooking everything on my own. Turkey, stuffing, pies, cranberries, cucs and cream, southwestern salad and I am sure there is more.

White and Rye bread in the bird and then I make extra with pork sausage.

Who are you celebrating with this year? Anyone else hosting? DH's Dad's side of the family. We alternate between the three families and this is their year. I'm not sure I will ever get to host because there are so many parents/siblings who are always dying to host it. Maybe I will pick another holiday to be our big feast holiday.

Do you have any special Thanksgiving traditions? Actually not really... Well we do watch the parade every Thanksgiving morning... Oh and March of the Wooden Soldiers. This was always on TV in NY when I lived there, but not so much in FL. Most people I know have never even heard of it at this point.
