In house DCP pay- NY/NJ/CT area

So, I'm going back to work next week! I'm really excited.  I'll only be working 12 hours a week- 3 days at 4 hours a day.  I'll be commuting in and out of NYC, so it may end up being closer to 5 hours a day.

Anyway- what should we pay our DCP? It's a friend. She has a 2 year old son, and also cares for a 3 month old.  While DS is there, he will take a 1.5 hour nap.  Any guidance would help. I know $15/hour is typical in this area, but I think that's high since he is not the only child. We were thinking of offering $200/week? Keep in mind the area- we live 20 minutes from Manhattan so everything is expensive, unfortunately.

  • I live around Albany, NY and I don't even pay $200/week for my in home and Audra is there from 7:15AM-5PM every day M-F. I know that living in NYC is expensive (my husband and I lived there a few years ago for a short while) but I believe that $200 is too much for what little time your LO will be there. I think for part time care at my DCP it is $35/day and that's for a full day, not 4 hours. I personally would probably offer $100/week since it's not a lot of time that she would be watching him, especially if he's going to sleep for 1.5 hours.

  • We pay $225/week for both girls (total) to go to an in-home daycare 3 days a week for 9 hours/day. If we do drop in for an extra day it's $35/kid for the full day. Eve though they go for full days this is considered the part-time rate since they on,y go for 3 days. So without the 20% discount it would cost $125/kid for the week.

ETA - we used the below website to find our DCP. You can search by town, so you could put in the more expensive towns in CT (Greenwich, Westport, etc) and see what it normally goes for. Family care = in-home care on this site.

  • Ok great thank you! I will talk to her tomorrow. I hate this bc it's so awkward but I want to actually take home some money instead of working for nothing.
