Silver Nitrate on Umbilical Hernia

This morning at my LO's 4 week check up, I brought up how her belly button has been crusty sometimes. Our ped said that it hadn't healed up yet and she used Silver Nitrate on it. My daughter also has an umbilical hernia that is quite bad and her belly button at times sticks out almost an inch. The silver nitrate was used around 10am this morning. Now I am noticing that her belly button is leaking a little bit of greenish-brown. Has anyone experienced this?

Our LO has an umbilical hernia and our pedi told us to leave it alone and that it will heal on its own within a year.

her belly button was leaking still because it hadn't closed off yet. She used the silver nitrate to close it up so that it didn't get infected. I just think the hernia makes it worse because it is always sticking out. we had so many problems with her belly button first with the cord clip, and the cord not drying out properly. Our pedi said this would heal up the belly from the cord... It has been extremely frustrating.
