Trouble TTC

WW3TD?

My first and second cycles on clomid my progesterone was low at 7dpo. 5.something the first time, 8.2 the second. For my 3rd cycle my RE prescribed prometrium because I asked about it. I don't think they would have suggested it if I hadn't asked because they didn't seem concerned about my p4 levels, but I was concerned after all my Internet research and bump sleuthing. Anyway, after my cd12 ultrasound this cycle the nurse called to tell me the doctor didn't think I needed to take the prometrium this cycle because my p4 levels are fine. At my IUI cd13 I asked the nurse about it and she said my levels looked fine, but to go ahead and take the prometrium anyway because it wouldn't hurt anything. Am I just overly paranoid about p4 levels?

So...WW3TD? Take the prometrium? Don't take the prometrium?

Re: WW3TD?

  • Honestly, I don't have a history of low progesterone or miscarriage, I've also never been pregnant, but my RE always prescribes progesterone for any medicated cycle.

  • I would just take it if you're concerned, I'm pretty sure you can't have too much progesterone so I don't think there's any harm. My RE also prescribes it for all patients during medicated cycles.

  • Do you know what your levels are for IUI 3?  I guess regardless of what they are, given your P4 the last two cycles, I would feel more comfortable taking the prometrium if I were you.

Also, FWIW, I used to take the supps vaginally to get them "closer to the source," but my current RE recommends orally because then she can better monitor/adjust my levels after a 7dpo blood test (the vaginal supps won't show up necesarily in a blood test).

    Good luck this cycle!

I won't know until my 7dpo blood work how my p4 turned out for this cycle. I think I'm just going to go ahead and take it. It's good to hear that it won't hurt anything at least. Thanks ladies, you have been wonderful as always!

  • I would just take it anyways if it won't hurt anything.  I have had low progesterone levels in the past as well and will ask my RE if we can continue to stay on it when we go back to trying on our own the rest of the year until 2013. Good luck!
