Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Bright red cheeks

My baby girl's cheeks were bright red when she came home from daycare yesterday.  Is this is a sign of teething?  She has definately been teething for the past 3-4 weeks but I'm wondering if a tooth is finally going to make an appearance. I'm going to call the pedi when they open this morning but I wanted to get you more experienced moms' opinions.

I'm not sure what my ticker below says but she is 18 1/2 weeks.

Re: Bright red cheeks

  • I don't really have an answer, but my LO's cheeks were like that yesterday too.  He didn't act like he felt bad, but he did feel a bit warm.  (His grandmother had him in a long sleeve shirt, pants and socks.)  But even when he was in the bath last night his cheeks were still red.  He'll be five months on Thursday and has been teething as well with one already coming through.  I would like to see what people have to say as well!
  • If they are drooling alot, the drool gets on their cheeks and creates a rash while they sleep. Drool rash. :)

  • Are you sure she doesn't have a mild case of slapped cheek, fifth disease? It is fairly common among young children this time of year. Maybe I am germ paranoid, but that was the first thing I thought of when I heard the words "daycare" and "bright red cheeks". It isn't such a terrible illness, and it probably wouldn't be a big deal if she had it. Still, here's hoping that she doesn't.
  • Could be an allergy if you have started any solids?  My LO's cheeks get a little red when he has dry skin.

  • DS got some very red cheeks when he actively cut his first two teeth (first one at 3 months-just a tad early!-second one three weeks later).  He hasn't been red like that since, but the drooling continues.
