I'm not honestly making light of the hurricane but trying to tie a current event to the familial storm that just hit.  My mother emailed me and my brother to say that she is, once again, without a job.  This is probably the 6th one she's had in the last two years.  She usually quits because she feels she's being "screwed."  She has no money, no savings.  She has her (too expensive) apartment until the end of November.  Living paycheck to paycheck, she isn't likely to find a job quickly enough to be able to pay her bills and stay in the place.  I have no idea where she's going to go.

She's asking us if we want various belongings of hers.  As much as I'd take some of it, I just can't.  I'm not helping her out of this mess (because it's a constant with her) so I don't feel right taking things.  I did tell her that I'll take any sentimental items (like things that belonged to my grandparents, photo albums, etc).  She told me I have to go there and dig through it all. What a PITA but my brother said he'd go too.  

No real reason for this tl;dr vent.  I just had to get it out.

This might be your prime opportunity to cut ties with her.  I mean, she's really not a healthy person to have a relationship with.  GL though, this has to suck big time.
